We purchased two of these to go along with our Diamondback Sorrento 27.5 MTB's and think we made the perfect choice for indoor cycling. We are both 59 years young and started cycling earlier this Spring for exercise and fun and didn't want to stop exercising during the Winter months so after researching the multitude of indoor trainers out there, we settled on the CycleOps Mag Trainer without the remote.

The price point and the various internet reviews and comments (not just Amazon) lead us to purchase the CycleOps Mag Trainer and thus far, we have no regrets whatsoever. Setup and configuration of the trainers is quick and simple with the included instructions making everything so easy that you can’t possibly get anything wrong with and during the setup.

We quickly realized after taking our initial rides that we needed to purchase trainer tires for our bikes since our bikes have Chaoyang Hornet 27.5 x 2.1 tires which are geared for outdoor trails and wooded roads / paths. After some additional research and reading other comments with similar configurations, we ordered the Tacx Turbo Trainer Tyre which is sold by Brands Cycle and Fitness and fulfilled by Amazon and should be arriving any day now. We are certain that these trainer tires will definitely reduce the noise and some minor vibrations we are getting and feeling from riding with the Chaoyang Hornet 27.5 tires especially since these trainer tires are specifically made for indoor trainers and our Chaoyang Hornet 27.5 x 2.1 tires are definitely not.

I made this purchase after reading many reviews and felt this unit was the best fit. It arrived as expected, needing some assembly. I was a bit put off by all of the reviews about how difficult it was to set up and how poorly written the directions were, WOW, UNBELIEVABLE, I didn't look at the directions until I had it assembled in order to find out how much resistance to put on the rear wheel. Apparently our society has degraded to the point that fathers and mothers don't know how to do anything mechanically so they can't pass that information along to their kids. This thing was a cinch to put together. I mounted my bike and found the ride not to be exactly like being on the road but close enough to keep me in shape during the winter. It doesn't coast because of its design so if you stop pedaling you will have to start again with full resistance. It is quiet and should not be an issue for apartment dwellers. Overall i like it so far but I have not had time to use it extensively. I will update in the event that I find any issues or find that it works better than expected.

Got this trainer recently (from Dicks) and the Kinetic Road Machine from Amazon. I honestly do not see the difference in performance between the 2. In fact the Kinetic makes a gurgling sound while the CycleOps is quiet. The Mag simulates the ride just as well if not better. For the type of riding I do the Mag more than meets my needs.

The Mag unit from Dicks was a kit that included the floor mat, sweat band and the front riser.

I will be returning the Kinetic because of the gurgling sound that I find annoying.

I am NOT a road racing man. I ride around 25-30 miles per week, but I will not ride in the rain, snow or below 45 degrees so I needed something to give me the cardio when the weather is not good. I read the reviews and bought this CycleOps. I have already done 3 rides. I set the resistance wheel on a level, then I use my gears for difficulty changes. Easy to set up. Not REALLY easy to get my bike onto the rack, but maybe I will get better at it with more use. Not much noise. My only real complaint is wear on my tire. I read online and adjusted it to where my tire barely touches the resistance wheel, but I think I will need to buy another tire. I must admit that doing my ride in the garage is convenient. No worry about cars and I can use small weights to work my upper body which makes my ride a better workout. Just gotta figure out the back tire wear.

What a great way to keep riding in inclement weather! I bought this for my husband up to use with his Trek bike and he's enjoyed the extra mikes! Now he's put my bike on it and I get extra mikes! Maybe I'll have to get another one.

Full disclosure: This is first indoor trainer I've ever used and I don't know much about cycling. I've also only used it twice

That's being said, I've really enjoyed this trainer. It was super easy to set up. I think it took me maybe a total of 7 minutes to put it together, change the skewer on my bike and mount it on the trainer. If you've never used one of these before, I highly recommend watching a video on YouTube about how to change the skewer and mount it. It really helped as the directions might be a little hard to follow on these steps.

There is some noise but I also have a Diamondback Vital 2 hybrid and don't have a training tire on there. I've been told and read that they make it a little quieter and smoother. All I have to do is turn my tv up a little and it's perfectly fine.

So far it's great. I'll update if anything changes.
