For this price, I was impressed. I have paid much more for gaming keyboards and received fewer options/flimsier products. I was fairly aggressive with this keyboard and found no loose keys/encountered no errors. This keyboard can withstand a beating. That's refreshing.

For me, backlit keys are must. We frequently game in dimly lit rooms, so I do occasionally need to look down to find an infrequently used key. The backlighting guarantees that I can do this quickly. And, though I wish the color were a bit "friendly" (like an icy blue hue), the red does translate nicely. (And, yes, it can be turned-off entirely or made dim if one desires to conserve electricity.)

For me, these keys have an ergonomic feel to them. I have had keyboards with perfectly flat keys ... I have never understood the appeal of those. I find this keyboard completely comfortable.

For this price, the Corsair keyboard is a smart investment.

UPDATE 07/03/2014: Just got a new desktop and immediately moved this keyboard to it. I guess you could say that this keyboard "feels like home" now. AND, the raised keys has translated to me being able to keep this keyboard uber clean with less energy than I would usually expend on such a task. Additionally, I love the little "click" I feel when I depress the individual keys ... I didn't think anything of it when I first wrote the review, but when I use my work computer, I really do miss this feature. In sum, if anything happens to this keyboard, I will buy this same exact one again. LOVE IT! (I added one more star to my original review since it has endured sooo much abuse and is still in like-new condition!!)

This keyboard is the one to get that's not mechanical. I would recommend this to everyone in a heartbeat.

One con about it, just one. The keyboard doesnt work at the bios level. You would have to swap keyboards in order to tinker around the BIOS and startup options.

Let me start by saying that I have been very impressed with the membrane keys on this keyboard. I own a mechanical keyboard with cherry switches and was worried that I would either end up returning this keyboard or gifting it to a friend. Turns out that isn't the case which is fantastic because I absolutely love the macro key setup and the nearly limitless color choices for the backlighting.

I'll start with the pros:
As I already stated, very high quality keys with a very robust feel.
3 profiles for the 18 macro keys that can be quickly switched via hotkeys.
Beautiful backlighting.
Good weight ensures the keyboard won't slide about the desk.
USB pass-through.
Textured volume knob is far superior to your standard up and down keys.
Very comfortable detachable wrist support.
4 adjustment legs instead of just 2.
Windows lock key is a great option for gamers.
The membrane keys honestly compare pretty well to the cherry switches on my mechanical board.
Lots of options for customization in the software available for download from Corsair.

Cons:
The only problem I've had so far is that when you try and fine tune the color of the backlighting you have to use the sliders for Red, Green, and Blue because the color palette is rather clunky. You either end up with a dark version of about 5 colors or white. Maybe they'll make it a little easier to use in an update later.

Hope this was helpful to anyone considering the K50!

When I was looking for a keyboard, the choice came down to the K50 versus Microsoft's Sidewinder. From my research it looks like both of them would be excellent keyboards. The deciding factor for me was that the K50 provides 3 Times as many macro keys as the Sidewinder. Now that I've used the K50 for awhile, I am confident I made the right choice. This keyboard's tactile response surpasses my expectations ... it even makes me want to write thorough reviews! :)

The K50 is an outstanding keyboard for regular business productivity as well as gaming. It has a Very Light touch, and the key travel is short--both of which conduce to very fast typing. My previous keyboard was a Logitech, and I was surprised how much faster I can type on the K50. The K50's touch is so light that I had to tighten up some of my typing habits: brushing against neighboring keys, acceptable on my old keyboard will now actually Type those extra keys. I think the K50 would be a great keyboard choice to use in national typing competitions.

You do receive only small benefit of the key lighting from your normal typing position: The keys are far brighter when viewing them from directly above. Still, the lighted keys do make for a more attractive keyboard.
Also, note that it is inaccurate when they report 4-level lighting (including off). Actually, there is Infinite lighting gradation because each color--Red, Green, Blue-- has its own slider, so lets say you clicked on 30% brightness ... If you then placed each slider at, say, 50%, your net brightness would now be set at 15%! Furthermore, I believe a more subtle brightness will increase the LED's longevity.

The gunmetal-colored frame at the rear of the keyboard truly looks impressive.
