If you have a glass or shiny tile surface that's begging for a towel hook, this item will definitely fit the bill. If you're looking for a no-mar solution to your hanging problems but you're working with wood, painted surfaces, or anything with even a slight amount of texture, you're going to want to check out the Command line of products because this thing won't work.
The Griipa design works the same way as a window cling - you know the kind the kids can apply, remove, and re-apply as often as they like. You also know how well those clings work on your windows and mirrors, and how poorly they work on pretty much anything else, so you can understand why the Griipa hook is going to work for only a few applications. To be fair, the package also includes an extra "adapter" that allows the hook to be used on rough tile and metal. The "adapter" appears to be a piece of clear tape. It is not intended for use on textures or painted surfaces.
When I first opened the package, I was surprised by the size of the hook. The base is just slightly smaller diameter than a Campbells Soup can, and the hook sticks out about 2.5" from the wall. It weights in at a hefty 6 ounces. Although the description claims this is stainless steel, all appearances point to brushed nickel - especially the copper that's peeking out around the base of the hook (nickel finish is accomplished by first plating the base metal with copper, then nickel), stainless steel isn't a surface plating, so no other metals would show through if this were truly stainless.Read more ›
