Very cool, but definitely made for kids (not adults)

As a big fan of Nerf guns, I was excited to get my hands onto these BoomCo guns. They are the first serious competitor to the Nerf juggernaut, using a series of innovative technologies. The biggest one is that tip isn't a suction cup, but rather a chemically-treated plastic that ONLY sticks to specially-treated targets. On these targets, it sticks like one of those gummy hands you may remember from childhood. On everything else, it just reacts like a bit of rubber.

The two guns I received BARELY fit into my hands (which are not huge, but adult). My pinkies are hanging off the edge like an Englishman drinking tea. They are also very light and fairly skeletal in contraction. But they do work. Each one has fold-out "shields" which have a treated front sticker to which the darts will stick. The darts are contracted like straws, with thin plastic shafts, so I am skeptical about the longevity. Each gun comes with three darts - one fits into the barrel, and two into the grip for storage. You pull back on the rear grey bit - like a semi-automatic in the movies - and the gun will not fire without a dart in the barrel. The darts fire with sufficient power to sting at close range, and go a decent distance. But I don't see any danger of bruising or injury if you stay away from the eyes. These guns also come with a SINGLE sticker target which can be used for practice shooting.

Parents, Be aware that these guns are shipped in the OPPOSITE of Amazon's "frustration-free packaging". Stings, multiple layers of cardboard, plastic glued in place. It'll take you a while to get them out, unless you decide just to tear them to bits.Read more ›

I pulled the slide back like any other nerf gun

I bought these as kind of a gag gift for my wife's birthday, hoping that we could shoot them at each other. I went to load them and set them up so we could start right when she came home from work. Of course I had to test them first!

I pulled the slide back like any other nerf gun, it felt solid but it was no tougher to pull back than a regular nerf gun. Aaaaaaand then I pulled the trigger...... HOLY COW!!! I couldn't shoot this at my wife! I would be on the couch faster than I could get another dart in! Normally I might whiz one bt the cat to see if he'll play with it but i was afraid I might permanently blind him, or worse.

After standing 15 feet away from the patio door and having the dart bounce back and land next to me, the next test was to see how powerful it really was. Unfortunately I haven't been able to see if the 70ft claim it had on the box (due to snow) but I did shoot it straight up in the air and it was at least 5 seconds before it hit the ground.

The darts are made of a plastic material that resembles a thick straw. The tips remind me of the little bugs that I got as a kid that you would throw at a window and they would walk down it, but interestingly enough the darts do not stick to glass or anything for that matter. The only thing that they stick to is the target and the shields on the gun.

The gun is seemingly well constructed, I can see where the shields might be a problem though. They are not mounted very firmly and I could easily see them breaking off under the pressure of a close range shot. The interior mechanism is what really impressed me though, there is some sort of "safety" that locks the trigger if you dont have a dart in, making it impossible to dry fire it.Read more ›

Boomco-shootin' and stickin'

My sons (6 and 10) got this for Christmas- they saw it on tv I believe and wouldn't stop begging me for it...so Santa brought it. It's so much fun! The guns are relatively small sized- about a handgun size (but I don't know anything about guns..so I'm just guessing :) They shoot sticky "bullets" out towards the targets...wall...sister..ha ha! and shoot far- however the occasional "sister or brother hit" actually sting pretty good- so don't let them aim at each others faces- which should be a no-brainer! Easy to load and fire, the guns come with 4 bullets each- red and green. My boys say they shoot better than nerf does and they take up less space! Great gift for boys--they'll love it!

The kids told us parents to "please get your own!" So we did. LOVE these!

These Boomco Dual Defender Blasters have been a complete hit at our home. I was very concerned about a higher powered gun like these as in teh past we've only had nerf guns and the 5 year old has been handle those ok. We initially purchased one set of two and my sons (11 and 5) have been playing nonstop. Although it was a bit more difficult for my younger son to pull it back to shoot, he eventually became better at it and no longer needs our help. I will add that purchasing the additional poster sized target made a huge difference in the game and length of play. I highly recommend adding that as an inexpensive way to expand your target. We have had so much fun and the boys got tired of sharing their blasters with us that my husband decided to order another set for the two of us, so now the family plays together and it's super fun and relatively inexpensive entertainment for what you get. The blasters and the darts are well made and we've had no trouble getting the darts to stick. They are also fairly easy to peel off the target (whether you're using the included targets or the larger poster I previously mentioned) and continue on to the round!
