This baby was on my door step when i got home today, what a Christmas gift. So i am not even going to review the album because any Black Crowes fan knows that the songs are amazing so i am going to review the vinyl quality and shipping. First things first, the packaging. Well i have to say Amazon you finally got it right as the box was packed nice and snug with little pillows to ensure their big trip to Australia was comfortable, so thank you. Now to the vinyl quality, well all i can say is this baby is heavy-duty 180 and was straight as, no warping, no roll on the turntable and sound was that beautiful old school sound. I am impressed and so happy i bought these to add to our collection. Finally i have pasted this review on all of the Black Crowe albums i purchased as all of them are impressive.

Giving this album one star because of the vinyl edition. Songwriting and performance on this record are great. Other formats I have listened to (CD, digital files) sound great. I was really hopeful that the vinyl version would surpass all of these compressed formats, but it looks like whoever was in charge of this new pressing cut a lot of corners. As other reviewers have noted, the packaging is really cheap on this one. 2 discs in a single sleeve, not gatefold. The lyrics insert is on lightweight paper. I'm actually not a bit concerned with cosmetic aspects of this release at all. For me, it's all about the quality of the records themselves. Even before I dropped the needle, I knew something was wrong.
The center hole on the record was punched too small, and I had some trouble getting it on my turntable. But it got worse. The first track sounded pretty good, with decent separation for the instruments, though the guitars sounded muffled and muddy. I thought that maybe the lack of articulation for the guitar tracks was maybe on the original masters, so I continued to listen. Halfway through track two, Robinson's vocals began to sound more and more distorted, like they were recorded too hot and started clipping. The whole mix got worse the more the second track continued, ultimately sounding like a muddy mess. I think that maybe this is an example of nobody bothering to remaster this recording for vinyl, and the source was not properly managed to get the best recording to the press. I think that this Crowes release is one of their best, and I'm incredibly disappointed that it sounds this bad. I'm returning it to Amazon. Unlistenable.

This album on vinyl is worth five stars, but it's absolutely no frills packaging. With vinyl prices getting so high, it seems logical to do more than a white inner and cheap B/W print sheet.

That being said, I am thrilled to finally have this on vinyl. Few bands seem as obvious for this format, and Southern Harmony is arguably their best record.

It is with a very heavy heart I give one if my favorite albums if all time only a 3 star review. This negativity has nothing to do with the stellar music provided by The Black Crowes on their fantastic sophomore album.

I have been overly excited to own this album on Vinyl since I heard it was being released in this format. Unfortunately the album is skipping out of the package. Thorn in my pride had little jumps here and there, very disappointing as this is such a classic track. Also black moon creeping gets stuck in a groove and doesn't find it's way out. I hope I'm the only fan that received a copy in such condition. Very disappointing. I think I'm going to have to reach out to the distributor about my grievance.

Once again the negativity here is not meant to take away from one of the best albums to come out of the early nineties, you didn't have to be grunge during that time to be successful you just had to record great music and that's what these guys did.

The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion is, arguably, The Black Crowes best album. The songs are consistently strong and the album flows in a logical and emotional order that shows them off at their best. From the rocking starter, "Sting Me", to the laid back, relaxed Bob Marley cover, "Time Will Tell", this is the Crowes' "classic" album. I'm not going to review the songs, per se. If you like the Black Crowes, you'll love this album.

The 180 gram vinyl sounds great! Vinyl gives this album that warm and wide "70's" sound that it really deserves. I heard parts (especially organ parts) that get lost in the compression of digital recordings.

That said, the presentation is a disappointment. As noted by other reviewers, the card stock is thin and flimsy. The 2 LPs are in a single jacket. I will give the manufacturer credit for including the lyric sheet. But, if they had used heavier card stock, made the sleeve a gatefold, and just used the lyric sheet for the interior faces of the album, this could have been an easy 5 star product.

So, to make a long story short; great album on good vinyl in a disappointing package.

The Vinyl itself is of high quality. Sounds great.
However, the packaging is total 'Cheepnis'.....
Flimsy card stock and the graphic reproduction is totally blown out.
Pretty big bummer, at 29.00 they ain't exactly 'giving it away'....
I simply bought some vinyl, nothing of true collector value here.
