Fast external disc player and burner. There are few others that can compare with this one for price, features, and supported media types. A definite plus for being a true USB 3.0 device, whereas others are "USB 3.0 compatible", which ends up meaning just USB 2.0 when you look at the actual specs of those devices. My only complaints with the Pioneer unit are the need for a double USB plug to provide enough power, and that the USB port on the unit itself is a 3.0 micro-B port which I feel isn't as substantial and can more easily become unplugged compared to the standard port, which they could have used.

Worked great with my Mac Book Pro. It is USB 3.0, so it is fast.
Rips Audio CDs fast up to (real) 24X. The speed varies, but peaked out at more than 24x - the longer the track the higher the speed gets.
Hand braked a DVD at 260-300+fps.
I was able to burn a DVD - not super fast but it could be the software - but it play perfectly.
I used MDRP to rip the DVD to shirk it to an ISO file, then just used oxs dvd burner.
I also used handbrake to make an mpg version for playing on the mac and apple tv.
DVD Smith did not seem to work - nothing could read the rip from this program.
The comment that this is the page for PC version is correct - I do have the MAC version, and mine is white.
I purchased it at Best Buy on an impulse after reading bad reviews of Super Drive.
So far no issues.

I just bought this and from reading all the reviews about external blu ray plays I was worried. I want to make clear to anyone who doesn't know what they are doing: it's simple buy this blu ray player, plug both of its usb plugs into your pc or laptop and install the powerdvd 12 from the included disc or buy the newest powerdvd 14. this player works with ultraportables like my dell inspiron 11 3147, it will run off the usb 3 and usb ports from it no problems! so this is a good player for laptops . not sure if tablets like a dell 5000 venue 8 would have enough power or not. and those you need a micro-usb to normal usb adapter cable.

if you want to play blu rays off your hard disk install anyDVD HD, the HD version is for blu rays so DO NOT buy the plain anydvd version which is just for dvd's. once anydvd HD is running you can use any ripping program like dvdfab. use the "COPY" tab portion , select BD50 for the output and instead of the blu ray burner change it to a hard disk folder. it will rip your blu ray to hard disk. download and install dvdfab virtual drive (free), once that program installs and you run it, click the "G:" drive icon in your system tray and select the folder that you just ripped. once that folder mounts as a virtual drive emulating a physical blu ray disc in a player it will automatically launch powerdvd which you installed earlier. you click play in powerdvd and you will now watch your blu ray movie from hard disk instead of the blu ray drive. easy

I opted to buy this instead of the asus 14xblu ray player. the asus doesnt support 100gb or 128 gb blank discs. and its too big. this player is great! small, light, works easy and what more u need?

Work beautifully with my windows 7 64 bit laptop. I was a little worried about this thinking it may not work with my computer even though it says it's compatible with windows 7. I got this and plugged it in and without even needing to install the included cyberlink installation disk this writer basically installed itself. The way I put music on here is buy doing it from your "computer". It doesn't have a seperate program for DVD's like windows dvd maker. You just drag and drop what movies or videos you want on the blue ray and it burns them. Very simple. There is no menu either like there is in windows dvd maker. The only blue ray I have in my house is my ps3 and when I put the dvd in, the ps3 recognized it but you just select what documentary you want to watch. I don't think you can play all of them at once.

This thing is very quite and it burns blue rays very quickly. I had 7 documentaries on my computer. All of them were over 2 hours long. One was 3 hours long and the other 6 hours and it took this thing about 15 minutes to burn.

I used Verbatim blue ray discs. I don't know about those cheap blue rays. This may work with those but I wasn't willing to take a chance. The price was a little high for me but considering my laptop doesn't have a blue ray burner/player and if I wanted one I would need to purchase a new laptop that can cost about $700 this was a better investment I think. Plus I like pioneer products so that helped too.

At USB3 speeds this writes almost as fast as the internal Sata BD writer in my desktop. I'm happy with it.

UPDATE: I've been using the drive for some 6 months now and I'm still happy with it. But I need to correct my original statement: my internal BD drive is a Pioneer BDR-2208 which actually is capable of 15X write speeds although there aren't any 15X BD-R blanks, at least none that I can find. But it does write to 6X BD-Rdiscs a little faster than this external BDR-XD05 USB3 drive. For the external drive to compete that well with an internal SATA drive is a pretty good accomplishment.
