I was searching for a small radio to fit in a nitch in my newly remodeled bathroom. With such limited space I didn't think I would find any radio that met my needs? I searched every domestic and foreign brand I could find: none were worth a damn. I then came upon the Sangean Brand. I had never heard of it but the size was right and, on a hunch, I bought the PR-D18BU AM/FM Portable Radio. I was in for the most pleasant surprise!

This radio is the best of its class and probably surpasses the performance of many other more costly comparables. It is very well built: sturdy and made of the best synthetics. It is only 7 inches but its speaker cranks out quality sound at all bass and treble levels and does not distort at high ranges. I have never purchased a product, sight unseen, that has exceeded my expectations. This radio does and I will be buying another real soon. The Sangean Brand will eventually replace all other audio products in my household.

It's a very neat little radio. I looked for a long time to find one that has good sound, a cute design and a reasonable prize. This one is perfect. It comes without adapter though, so make sure to order one or have batteries when it comes, so you can listen right away. AC adapter needs to be 6V and 400 milli amps.

The Sangean PR D18 is a small,powerful radio. I own several Sangean radios and they all perform well. AM is very good and the FM is excellent. I have the PR D9, a radio of similar size and it has a weather band, but the D18 has something the 9 does not have...direct presets and that one feature sold me on the radio. I plan using rechargeable batteries, so the lack of an AC adapter is not that big a deal. Small size, good reception, a clock and a timer. Another winner from a company that does radio right.

I am pleased with the PR-D18. It locks onto every station I’ve tried on both AM and FM even weak stations in the crowded bands of the SF Bay Area. The sound is good for its speaker size and the headphone jack provides a stereo connection. It can be plugged into external stereo speakers as well as headphones.

It is solidly constructed with well laid-out controls. Some reviews have complained of the absence of an external power adapter. I have found that the PR-D18 works with rechargeable NiMH 1.2 volt AA batteries. It also works with a standard 5 volt 1 amp USB wall power supply. All you need is a USB to 5.5 mm/2.1 mm 5 volt DC barrel jack power cable. The cable is available on Amazon.

This is my 2nd Sangean digital radio. I was so pleased with the pocket version Sangean DT-120CL A/M / FM Pocket Receiver that runs on 1 AAA with no clock feature but requires a headset. This Sangean PR-D18 takes 4 AA batteries & has a clock. However, the display dims out after a few seconds to save battery life. Since my Sangean DT-120 battery life lasts 3-4 months on 4 hours/day use, I took a chance on the Sangean PR-D18 to replace my old analog radio. What a difference! Great sound with presets. Only problem was batteries only last about 2 months (cause of clock always running). For longer running radios with D size batteries, check out the Sangean PR-D14 or Sangean H201.

I placed my radio flat on top of the bathroom toilet. Sound fills the room while showering. I'm hooked on Sangean radios! Next I'll replace my garage analog radio with the Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black
One last note... This Sangean PR-D18 for around $50 sounds good as my Tivoli Audio PAL costing over $200
I'm sold on Sangean.

The best radio I have ever owned.Period.
Great reception and selectivity on both bands. I live very near two different station towers and my old radio this one replaced always suffered from station drift. No problem with the Sangean radio.
Pre-sets are easy to do. Case is sturdy and attractive( I got the red one--spiffy) with an easy to read dial . Clock easy to set; have not had reason to set the alarm yet. Battery life is very good and I see no need to have a power cord. I did look into one, but it is difficult to find a proper fitting one, even from the same company (see posts on the page of items often bought with the radio.)
Oh, one thing more: there was a criticism that the lowest volume setting was too loud , and could be heard across the room. Not on my radio. The lowest volume marker, 1, was quite perfect for soft listening.
This radio got it right.

My wife loves it. She wanted a new radio to replace one that is wearing out years of use. She listens in the morning when she is putting on makeup and where a cord would get in the way so battery ops is important and size needs to be reasonably small. The audio is excellent. Reception sensitivity for FM is excellent even with the antenna fully retracted and in storage position flat against the top. I read comments about the lowest volume level being too loud. That was definitely NOT a problem with the one shipped Feb 2015. Her bath is just off the MBR and I would definitely not be thrilled at 0430 if it had been overly loud. Another comment I saw in past reviews was that the radio does not provide stereo FM. It has a single front-facing speaker that precludes stereo but according to the manual the earphone jack provides stereo. Not an issue for her at this time but worth mentioning for those to whom it matters.
