Can a person fall in love with a sewing machine? Can smooth stitching, whisper quiet operation, rows of tiny stitched heart, and automatically sized buttonholes bewitch a normal person?

The answer is yes! Before this machine I was just a utilitarian seamstress. No frills, just hems, seams, and quilt piecing. Straight stitches with an occasional zigzag thrown in. But this SINGER One Plus has rocked my world. I have spent hours playing with all the custom stitches this machine can sew. I'm in love.

But my love is not blind. This machine has a lot of fantastic features, but it is not without a few minor flaws. Keep reading if you want the mind-numbing details.

✔ Whisper Quiet - This machine is quiet, silent. No chug, chug, chug noise like my old machine.

✔ Smooth Operation - The stitching is smooth and fluid. The fabric is pulled along at an even pace and all I need to do is give it a guiding hand.

✔ Threading - Threading the machine is easy, but I have to admit I screwed it up the first time. I tried to figure it out on my own (without reading the instruction), and ended up with a wad of shredded thread. Don't be like me, read the instructions.

✔ Automatic Needle Threader - This machine has is a nifty feature that will automatically thread the needle for you. The auto threaded is this bulky mechanism that hangs off the side of the needle casing. At first I thought about trying to remove it, but, surprisingly, it works very well. It threads the needle on the first try every time. Guess I'll leave it attached.

✘ Winding the Bobbin - The instructions on winding the bobbin were pretty clear, but I still had some trouble.

This machine seemed to have so much potential.

I've sewn projects for more than 20 years and have never met a grumpier / touchier machine.

Since receiving the machine on Christmas, I've sewn a shirt, a bag and started on a quilt (using the recommended needles and threads). Throughout each project the stitching was perpetually inconsistent and I had to work with the tension after each time the machine was turned ON. I've cleaned, dusted and oiled several times - even though I've only had the machine these past five months and only worked on three projects listed.

Its been professionally tuned TWICE and taken to a local sewing class for troubleshooting (at a local tech college - and with the manual). The professional said this machine was designed (mechanically) in a way that made "tying on the corners" impossible. I didn't wholly believe him because he also had product to sell. Well, after the tech college review, I've given up hope. Right now it is not catching on the bottom and changing the tension isn't helping (yes, I'm following the instructions in the manual).

Its too late to return - so I will keep working with it. But I'm incredibly disappointed. This was a lot of money for our family. I'm heartsick about the wasted money.

I have had this machine since the launch in jan 2013 and it was a night vs day difference to my basic walmart Singer machine.
what i liked
needle up/down settting - i cant tell you how much this helps when sewing!!! You dont go too far if your head and foot arent thinking the same second.
variable speed setting- love that i can set the speed at which i sew in case i get a lead foot
extra lighting so you can see your work and needle

What didnt matter
all of the 200+ stitches! I sew to supplement income and ive only used about 20 of the stitches to be honest
Auto bobbin threader-didnt use this because it doesnt catche the bobbin thread until the second stitch. Not good for sale items.

What is wrong
well like i said. Had it almost a year and the stitches started looping and missing. I tried everything i could then brought it to a repair place and even they couldnt figure it out without hours of labor and voiding the warranty. Repair tech said this is a very common problem with Singer brand computerized machines and why he let his Singer warranty repair license expire; thats all hed get in and they were time consuming.
*we will see how warranty service is. I dont think i should have to pay to ship a product to be fixed within the warranty time frame.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Once upon a time, many years ago, I could sew with a sewing machine. I took home ec for 3 years in junior high, and I made a skirt and a jumper and buttonholes and all that. However, over the years, I lost the skill, but not the desire to sew. About three years ago, I bought a bottom of the line sewing machine and spend many, many hours trying to make it work. It came with a DVD and pretty good instructions, and I think I was doing everything right, and I finally concluded that the combination of my unskilled hand and a shoddy machine just weren't going to work---everything came unthreaded constantly until I felt like crying. So when I got a chance to review this higher quality machine, I jumped at it! However, I was scared---quite scared of another disaster-ridden attempt.

I started slowly, watching the whole instructional DVD. I have to say, it might helpful for more experienced sewers, but most of what it had to say was "consult your manual for your own machine" It wasn't personalized to this model. So consult my manual I did, and I found it not super helpful. It seemed to leave out major parts of instructions, and it had diagrams that didn't look to me to be much at all like the actual machine. It had dire warnings about things like bobbin size, but didn't say for sure if the bobbins included WERE that size. I tried to use the automatic threader, but the instructions completely left out the existence of a level needed to use it, which I finally found on my own. So I didn't have high hopes once I actually got some fabric and gave it a try. I wasn't encouraged when the electronic display showed me I had some kind of error, but with a graphic that wasn't too helpful in knowing what it was. Luckily, some voice from years past reminded me to lower the pressure foot.
