I'm reviewing JBL's new Synchros headphones.

First of all, the packaging is top notch. The outside box is thick heavy card with a full color sleeve. I have mixed feelings about this one as a lot of money is spent on something which does not increase the function of the product. The headphones have their own beautiful padded carrying case inside. And here is the first problem. The padded carrying case is very tight for the headphones. It has a divider inside and you can only put the headphones in it if it is folded a certain way, but this is not a big problem.

Materials: At this price, you can expect the product to be well made. The headband is steel and the ear cushions are soft leather. Oh, if only my chair could be made of this leather! It's beautifully designed and all the other materials are first class as well. The cord is detachable and has volume and play buttons on it for smart devices. And here is my second problem. Since this is not a wireless able headphone, why make the cable detachable? Over time the connection could loosen and the cable could get lost. Worse, though the plug to the device is 3.5mm, the plug to the headphones is the 2.5mm variety. This is the first time I've seen a 2.5mm plug in a long time and makes it 100% certain I cannot use any other cable I have in the house. I guess the reason for the detachable cable is if the remote switch fails, as it has happened to me before then you don't have to throw away the whole headphone. Fortunately you can get 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo audio cable replacements.

Function: I found the headphones a little tight even at maximum setting. It bills itself as lightweight but I would call it medium lightweight at best.Read more ›

These headphones are high quality, when considered as a device.

HOWEVER, when considered as a product, which is what I bought, they fall short. I purchased these for each of my five children last Christmas. Within a year, two of the headphone cables had stopped working. No problem, you just get new cables, right? NOT!

JBL doesn't sell new cables. To make it worse, these cables are a non-standard format, with 3.5 on one end and 2.5 on the other and the device control connections (four contacts instead of three) on the non-headphones side. I have yet to find a source for a suitable replacement.

This means that the effective useful life of these headphones, with a suggested retail price of $200, is the warranty + the life of the fragile cable.

JBL has created a fantastic set of traveling headphones with the Synchros S300. The sound is top quality. I had been mainly using high end earphones lately, but for extended periods of time, those can be uncomfortable. The S300 has good response across the bass, middle, and high ranges. The sound is very crisp and distinct across several music genres rock, pop, classical, jazz. Although an on-ear design, the cushioning does a good job of blocking external sound, so you have the sense of being in a concert hall.

It does not matter how foot the headphones sound if they are uncomfortable. Whereas, I find most on-ear headphones press on my ears and don't fell very good, the S300 feels great! It has the right amount of cushion, and the top band is firm but not crushing. It is adjustable by sliding the top band out of the side pieces.

The controller works well for adjusting volume, skipping songs, and taking calls.The S300 comes with a sturdy case, and the earpieces, swivel to the side to fold flat.

The Synchros S300 is now my top choice of headphones to use at work and bring on trips.

The Synchros S300 are my new favorite pair of headphones. The sound quality is amazing compared to other high end headphones I have used. I like the way the Synchros headphones fit on my head and envelop me in sound. I can hear new things in my music that I hadn't heard previously. I'm not an audio snob, but I really felt like I could hear everything that was meant to be in the song. Overall, I am very impressed with these headphones.

The build quality is fantastic with the exception of the cord. The headphones are solid and the ear padding is generous. The head strap feels tough. My complaint is with the cord/remote. It feels very cheap. I was surprised by how cheap it felt compared to the rest of the product. The cord is detachable though. I plan to get a higher quality replacement since the quality just doesn't fit with the rest of the headphone package.

If you're looking for a high end set of headphones, the Synchros S300 is a good choice. I feel enveloped in sound when using these headphones. It's like the entire world is blocked out. They aren't noise cancelling headphones (which would have been a nice feature at this price point), but I do feel like I'm in my own little world when using the Syncrhos.

I ordered these headphones as a replacement for another pair, different brand, that didn't work. I did quite a bit of research on quality and price before buying these and I'm so glad I chose this pair. They work beautifully. As a musician, I'm very picky with sound quality but I find no complaints at all with these. Balance is great, tone is great, they are very comfortable, well made, and all around, I highly recommend these headphones.
