My first baby food purchase was Earth's Best on clearance at Big Lots. I got this variety pack, and a fruit blends variety pack. Since using the Earth's Best up and working through Gerber and store brands, I appreciate the Earth's Best more.

First off, this has a good texture for spoon feeding. It is puréed, but not runny or drippy. Some other brands I have tried, I have to mix in baby cereal to be able to spoon feed. All three flavors here have enough mushiness that I can scoop with a spoon and feed them.

Second, the ingredients are top quality. Too often, I will get a baby food that says it is one flavor or another, but has a lot of apple sauce. These are not like this. If the jar is labeled peas, the number one ingredient will be peas. This is less an issue with vegetables, but it's still something I appreciate about Earth's Best that they avoid fillers.

Third, these all taste fine to me. I try a little before I feed baby, because I want him to get a variety of flavors early to be adventurous and not picky later. All three of these have the taste of the vegetable (but, of course, the texture is flat purée).

The big disadvantage to these is the price. Babies R Us and other stores carry Earth's Best, but everywhere it is a premium brand. Still, these are less watery than Gerber and other brands, so I feel I'm getting more of the vegetable and less water. I have not yet bit the bullet and paid full price, but maybe I will as I feel let down by the lower priced brands I am now trying out.

I'm only giving two stars because this is the first item I've ever had issues with. Out of 12 jars, two had the seal broken. This could have been missed very easy, but being an avid canner I noticed the lids poping right away. This worries me being baby food, and not one but two. Amazon did refund me the cost of two jars. I still hope everyone's careful and double checks the lids before opening.

I like the Earth's Best organic jars. All three of my kids have enjoyed the flavors and textures. I started ordering the jars off of Amazon; the prices for jars of veggies are especially good.

Unfortunately, these jars just aren't packaged that well. Sometimes they make it to me in one piece, but often they don't. Of course Amazon is great and refunds my money no questions asked (they have even refunded me the full purchase price when only one or two jars were broken), but it is still a pain. Even if you get a few free jars, you still have to clean up bits of broken glass splattered over with crusted baby food. It isn't pleasant.

My advice: when you can get a great deal through Amazon, it's worth the risk to buy these jars through them. But if the price is the same as you would pay at, say, Target or your local grocery store, I say skip buying online and just buy local instead. Even Peapod would be a better option.

Either way, the actual brand of Earth's Best organic food is great. They make a high quality product at a fair price.

I usually always buy and make organic non-gmo foods, for my daughter. However, if I am crunched for time or a particular food is not in season, I will choose Earth's Best. My daughter loves all of the foods offered and I too thought they tasted good. I did contact the company when I saw claims that BPA was still in the lids and the phasing out process wouldn't take place until October of 2012. Not only did they respond quickly, they informed me that BPA has not been part of their packaging process since October 2011 ( I have included the email below). Great Company, absolutely love their products!

I use this to add moistness to all my gluten free baking items, which tend to be dry otherwise. I've tried applesauce instead, since it's cheaper, but the baby pears work much better. It could also be used in regular gluten baking to replace some of the oil. (I have no fat phobia, use butter and olive oil every day, but I hate oily muffins.) And this is organic and packed in glass, not questionable plastic.

We were having issues with my son's bowel movement (when he was 6 months old) when we started solids so our daycare provider recommended prunes. I already got him started on some Earth's Best First Fruits so this was a brand we liked. He was a little reluctant at first --- but he quickly ate it all. It worked like magic. He had some explosions at first which cleared his system pretty well and was regular in a few days.

The food itself was fine, my son seemed to like it just fine. But I don't recommend buying this online since they are glass jars. There were several jars broken when I opened the box. I was able to salvage most of the jars and wash them off really well, but it was a pain in the butt and a big mess, not to mention I didn't get my full monies worth. To "return" the item would have been too much of a pain and probably not worth it. I will not be buying this online again.
