For what it's worth: I'm not a coffee snob; I have always enjoyed the taste of coffee and coffee-flavored things, but have not made the effort to delve into the world of coffee snobbery. I have, however, been told that I have a discerning palate.

I've recently found myself craving coffee before bed, and since my wife and I are not avid coffee drinkers (read: we're not addicts) I've been reluctant to make the effort to find beans we like, purchase gadgets, and especially reluctant load-up on caffeine before bed. It occurred to me that decaffeinated instant coffee was the easiest option to satisfy my craving, so I proceeded to read as many reviews of basically any instant coffee brand for which I could find reviews.

I eventually settled on Mount Hagen for a couple of reasons; the first being that it seems responsibly-produced, and the second being that it was pretty close to the top (if not at the top) of any "best of instant coffee list" I could find.

This coffee definitely satisfies my evening coffee cravings, and is as good (if not notably better) than coffee I've had at many restaurants and coffee shops. What's more is that it dissolves into cold milk (I use almond milk, and my wife uses regular dairy milk) fairly easily, so a quick coffee drink is literally one tablespoon of this stuff into a 16oz glass of milk with a little stirring.

If the "makes 60 cups" claim is correct: we're talking less than $0.20 per cup at this price point, and even less if you buy the 3 or 5 pack. I know -- especially when compared to name-brands which are easy to find in grocery stores -- that the price can seem expensive for instant coffee, but Mount Hagen is absolutely worth it, and (per cup) may be the best cup of coffee for the least amount of money you can get anywhere, freeze-dried or not.

I stopped drinking coffee many years ago after developing a severe sensitivity to caffeine. Even decaffeinated coffees tend to make me feel very anxious. I originally bought this for my daughter, who was spending way too much money at Starbuck's, and she really likes it. So I tried it, very weak at first, and found that it didn't make me nervous at all. Even a strong cup of Mount Hagen decaf has no effect. I am happy to be able to drink coffee again! I love that this is free trade and organic. It is so much less messy than dealing with filters and presses and all the coffee gizmos. I even like the jar, which is easy to open and rectangular (so it fits nicely on a shelf.)

This is excellent coffee for around fifteen cents per cup. I am very pleased with this purchase.

(Note: this coffee is manufactured in Germany, which has very high standards for organic foods. It is also USDA organic.)

I use these for family members who can't have caffeine yet still want to partake in coffee drinking, with a great coffee flavor.
This brand is usually almost twice as expensive at my local organic supermarket, so to see it on amazon with free shipping at a bargain price, I stock pile them. They're fresh, and really take a headache off making a complicated french press, when you either have guests or want a quick coffee fix without having to go through the hassle of preparing and grinding beans.
Love the taste, and the fact they 're not moldy like other brands.

I think I reviewed this coffee before when I had just bought the individual packets, but I like the coffee so much I bought a couple of jars of the stuff. When I'm in a hurry I don't want to brew coffee, especially just for one person, so I have been looking for a really good instant decaf. I love this stuff! Drink it almost every morning and night. No, not like fresh brewed from a coffee bar, but very good and very handy. I like it as much or better than the little Starbucks instant coffees...and much, much better price. Give it a try!

The decaffeinated and caffeinated instant coffee from Mount Hagan is hands down the best instant coffee I have ever tried - I have often served it to guests (some very fussy) without any one ever guessing it is not high quality fresh brewed. Any one who wants an instant coffee that tastes like 'real' coffee this is it. If you have been using a brewed decaf that doesn't taste full bodied enough for you - then this might satisfy - I never brew coffee anymore.
