I've had this treadmill for over ten months now, and my enthusiasm for this product remains strong. The frame is rock-solid and the power train is robust. The running deck is extremely comfortable - cushioned without feeling bouncy - and the noise level is minimal. The ability to change the height and tilt of the console was an unexpected bonus. I like using the built-in speakers for audiobooks and podcasts, but for music I much prefer an iPod docking station located close by. When I first got the treadmill, the speed changes were abrupt - hang on to the safety handles! - but that changed long ago. Epic updates the treadmill's firmware regularly, and speed changes are now more gradual. Or at least that's how it seems to me.

The console display and view options on the A42T are nothing short of superlative. Depending on the type of workout you're engaged in (e.g., Google map, goal-driven, programmed, manual) there will be anywhere from three to five available screen displays that you can cycle through by swiping left or right across the screen. These include your choice of Google street view, map view or satellite view in map-driven workouts; a generous lookahead of upcoming incline changes in map-driven workouts, or upcoming speed and elevation changes in programmed workouts; the proverbial quarter-mile track; a dashboard-type display of all current running metrics; and customized displays for the various types of goal-driven workouts (time, distance, calories, or pace). Individual readouts on the display allow even more flexibility. For example, the upper lefthand corner of the screen shows elapsed time by default. Pressing this button cycles through time remaining (in a programmed workout), pace, and average speed.

This treadmill has everything that you could want, but it does not deliver! From day one the elevator for the console has not functioned correctly. The speed varies up and down on its own. When tested the speed varies from the setting displayed between .3 to 1 MPH. The speed will change during a workout (dangerous) . The cooling fan interferes with the Heat Rate Monitor making both the hand grips and the strap useless.

The control boards for the speed and lift have been replace, this did not correct the problems. I waiting for the lift motors and wiring to be replaced, not response yet on the continued speed problem (suspect a problem with the PWM software). or the Heart Rate Monitor interference.

The iFit programs are great, provide the incentive to use the treadmill on a regular basis. This could easily be a Five Star product if it were not for all of the operational and quality issues.

I will follow up on this review after the next round of repairs!

I have had a lot of issues with this treadmill since I purchased it about 2 months ago:

The wiring that controls the deck incline, the module incline, and the module height must be positioned within the handlebars during assembly. The wires seem to be very sensitive, so if they are shifted or too crammed into that area, then one, two, or all three of the controls will cease to function. The wires must be placed just right for the controls to function.

Although the incline seems to be working properly (albeit very slowly), it always seems to fail calibration. ICON said it's probably due to a firmware issue, though the updated? firmware doesn't seem to help.

About the firmware: I have been assuming that the treadmill is running the latest firmware, but now I'm not so sure. The reason is, whenever I check for updates in the settings, it always seems to find the exact same files, with the exact same sizes. I can install it and immediately do another check for updates, and it will still ask me if I want to download and install it. If it is updated, why is it asking me to update to the same exact firmware? So, now I'm not sure if it's really installing, even though it always claims to have installed successfully.

I like the touchscreen monitor and the stats that it displays. Trying to run along with Google Street View, however, is not as enjoyable as it seems. I guess the video workouts would probably be more realistic, though I haven't attempted any. I'm not sure if you can adjust pace and incline during a video workout. I wish the monitor allowed you to remove a lot of the excess text during a run. There is so much on the screen that you can barely focus on the images in the background.

The built-in web browser is useless. Period.
