INTRODUCTION:

Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, the spice often used in curries. Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years for various inflammatory conditions. Recently, there has been a lot of positive scientific research confirming these benefits. Not surprisingly, several new curcumin products have become available.

Curcumin is like fish oil in that it has multiple benefits. Curcumin is used for pain/inflammation, brain health or cognitive decline, cancer prevention, heart health and even alleviating depression. Many of these seemingly unrelated disease conditions trace back to inflammation and reducing inflammation is how curcumin works. So it is not surprising that curcumin appears to do so many different things. Anyone taking fish oil ought to seriously consider adding curcumin to his or her supplement regimen.

Curcumin is very poorly absorbed but is safe even at very high doses. Taking turmeric spice is not recommended, as it is barely absorbed. I have been living with joint pain, fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue for over 18 years and after taking this Turmeric tablet for about 5 days I began to notice improvements in my knees and skin. I have been taking 3 pills a day for about a month and a half and I was able to push mow my whole lawn (about .6 acres) in one day. I have not done that in years. I still have pain, but it is greatly reduced. I have a little more energy. Not a lot, but every little bit helps. I am praying that over time the improvements will continue. I am so glad I am taking Turmeric!

Got this same YouTheory Turmeric product for just under $20 today (180 pills) at Costco in Clackamas, OR.
Compared to Nature's Way 120 count this is a much better deal for several reasons (besides having the same "Turmeric Standardized Extract (95% Curcuminoids)...450mg" as the Nature's Way):

1. Has 180 pills (60more)
2. Has the benefits of Olive Leaf Extract (300mg) - which can be had from $5 to $13 with NOW foods or Nature's Way.
3. Has the benefits BioPerine Black Pepper Extract (15mg) - which can be had for about $18 here on Amazon but with only 10mg (95% Piperine) each pill.
4. Less expensive compared to Nature's Way
5. No major smell to it (like curry smell but only slight).
Cons:
1. To get the less expensive one you got to have a membership to the store I went to.
1. Oleuropein potency?
2. Piperine potency?
3. Has a slight smell - may bother some?

Also, some people eat curry dishes (like me) and might have some turmeric in it, but it may not have the amount needed to help with inflammation so a supplement is nice.

I wasnt sure if the turmeric was helping with my aches and pains until I ran out. Ouch. I can skip days, but not a week before I notice more pain from minor sports injuries or tennis elbow. I'm 46 y/o female and nurse. I have a pain disorder that makes me feel pain more intensely. Highly recommend as it has been proven to help your health in more than one way.

I am more than happy with this product! It's anti-inflammatory actions make me ache so much less, I find I am no longer taking OTC painkillers. In addition, totally unexpectedly, the swollen joints in my hands look practically normal again, after being arthritic for years. I do take other supplements as well, do it may very well be the resilt of an interaction between the Touthoery turmeric and other additional supplements, instead of the turmeric alone. Either way, I am thrilled!

I like it and it works. I originally took 3 a day and experienced some stomach and intestinal growlings. Then I cut them in half and I now take 1/2 pill in the morning with breakfast and a 1/2 pill at bedtime with a small snack. I have found that I need to take it with food. If I don't take it, I feel stiffness in my joints and across the back of my shoulders.
