I had been researching juicers, thinking about being healthier when I realized how insane it was to throw out all that fiber. So decided on a super blender. I did a TON of research and read many reviews. What sold me on this product was a u-tube review comparing the Vita Blend (the holy grail of blenders) to this Ninja. The reviewer is a vitablend worshiper and even she admitted this was an awesome blender... and over $300 less expensive.

I was a blender virgin when I decided to go out and invest in this baby... and let me tell you, when I was in my 20's a good blender was $20! I happened to get mine on super tale at Target for less than $190.

The good: I LOVE that it come with the smaller travel blender. Great for customizing smoothies, using to whipping cream, etc. I love the option for the huge blender bucket as well. I make smoothies all the time and trick my kid into eating kale, spinach, dates, wheat germ and chia seeds...bwhahahahah! I also freeze the smoothies into popcicles. I WISH I had this years ago to make home made baby food.

Perfect for smoothies, whips cream well, I use it to make crepe batter, soups, etc. I love this thing!!!! Very durable so far, and super easy to clean.

Easy to use, assemble and put together. Never had any problems with the lid, breaking etc... and I bang on mine a lot (why you ask would I need to... see below).

The bad: for ANY of these high performance blenders you need to learn how to use them... not the toggle switch but the rules. I have a bad habit of overfilling the mini blenders which makes for a less smooth smoothie... but still does awesome. Also, if you use all frozen items, you must add enough liquid otherwise you get flavored snow.

It makes perfect smoothies for me; even though, some do complain about the smoothies not being smooth. In my testing I learned it's because blending is not occurring long enough and/or the upper blade assembly is not being used.

I got the best consistency and smoothness when I blended for 2-3 minutes rather than the 1 minute many blend for. The upper blade assembly, that does make for better smoothies because its got a bulge in the middle which helps to move food material around. There is also the extra cutting from the additional blades.

It does make good smooth smoothies if used correctly. People just need to use a bit of common sense and have more patience when blending.

As for cutting speed. Sometimes the high can be a bit to much. I use medium or low. Depending on how much food is in the canister. In my testing the High is really only needed for thicker food material. It does have a pulse feature too, but I never found I needed to use that. Its a good feature to have in case any food gets stuck.

Both the lid and canister are locking. This is a nice feature to prevent spills, splashes, or anything like that. However, the lid on the top does have a rubber seal. I can see that breaking down over time.

There is a pour spout on the the lid and the canister is not to heavy for pouring, even with lots of liquid inside. The lid locking makes it easier to pour with spills and splashes.

The canister can be locked down to the base whether the handle is on the left or right side. They clearly thought about ambidextrous and left handed people in the design.

Ok while it lasted. The blade is driven by a set of three plastic gears that revolve around a metal shaft. These gears strip, the blender makes a whirring sound, and the drive won't turn. Replacement parts aren't available that I've been able to find, and the gears are riveted to the larger unit so even if I did find matching gears I'd need to drill out the rivets and replace them. Very disappointed in this product.

My husband bought this blender for me for Christmas. I make smoothies for us every day and had been using the NutriBullet. This worked really well for the drinks, but for 3 of us, I had to blend ingredients twice separately. With this machine, I can make enough for 3 of us that will last for 2 days. I can make a full 72 ounces of drink at one time!!

I generally use 3-5 fresh scrubbed carrots, fresh spinach and/or kale or chard, and a variety of frozen fruits that we either buy frozen or I freeze fresh when they are on sale. I also add chia seeds, nuts, goji berries, bee pollen, and sometimes flax seed. I do tend to push machines such as this to the max. I fill the container to the top, and then add water to a little over half up the container. I pulse a few times to break down the frozen pieces, and then start the blender at low speed and gradually moving to high speed. If I let it go for too long, it will automatically shut down because it is over heated. So I let it rest for a few minutes, and start it up again until all ingredients have be liquefied. Sometimes I take the blender assembly out, and let it blend for a few minutes with just the bottom blades. This will make the drink smoother and more aerated. Doing it the way that I do, the drinks do tend to thicken as they sit. So I have to add more water to make them drinkable. This is fine because I can make more with one pass.

The individual cups included with this system are wonderful for making individual drinks, but I prefer to make more at one time. Whether this system will work for you depends on what you want to do with it. It's great for making smoothies, but in my opinion, it would not be as useful for chopping foods. The bottom blades tend to liquefy as the upper blades chop.
