I needed this to put a Reese 5th wheel hitch in. I only needed it to pull off 8 holes in the frame and it couldn't accomplish that. I didn't overheat the bit, used oil while drilling and so on and it was out of steam after the second hole so needless to say I'm less than impressed. I ended up using an 8 year old 1/2 Harbor Freight bit to do the grunt work and used this to enlarge the holes after. I would suggest you purchase any other bit than this one.

Perfect! Needed a drill bit that could open up a hole that was just .01" too small and this bit was the key. I have only used it a few times, but so far it is very sharp and has yet to loose any of its edge. I will definitely buy from this company again next time I need a specialty bit.

The bit seems fine, and the price was good, but labeling (on Amazon) could be better. A search for 1" drill bits returns a list of 1" drill bits... like it should. However, the search returns other sizes too, which show up as "Drill America DWDRSD Series Qualtech High-Speed..." on the search-return list. If you are bone-head (like I was) and fail to read the entire description, you may miss the size that is listed correctly on the 5th line of the description... The size is kind of the most important thing. So, it would be nice to see it listed 1st. My mistake and it never hurts to have a few extra bits around. Now I have a 11/16 bit AND a 1" bit.

I would have given this product 2.5 stars if I could. Although the bit was shipped quickly, packaged nicely, of proper size, and made from hss steel as described, it was not properly sharpened. An issue that I do not understand? If you are in the business of making drill bits you would think that you would want them to actually drill a hole. Just saying, you wouldn't wanna sell a light bulb that didn't light would you? What kinda money would you make? When this drill bit was manufactured they did not allow the proper relief clearance behind the cutting edge in order for the drill to actually cut. All it could do is rub against the metal and generate heat and burrs. Luckily in my younger days I did a stint as a machinist and recognized the defect. After sharpening the drill bit properly it worked quite well. Do you know how to sharpen a drill and own a bench grinder with a good wheel? I do not understand how a defect like this could be missed. I was attempting to drill a hole in 1/4" thick 2 inch steel square tubing for a receiver hitch. The bit worked very well after it was properly sharpened. I used the lowest speed setting on a large drill press with a 1/4 inch pilot hole.

I questioned the quality of this item when I saw the low price, but was pleasantly surprised when it arrive very well packaged with a quality drill bit. It's packed in stick lubrication to prevent rust so grab a can of WD-40 and clean this thoroughly before using. This drilled clean neat holes in the steel grinding wheel arbors that I needed to enlarge. I used my wood lathe as a horizontal boring machine and this bit made me feel like a machinist - which I certainly am not! But I got professional perfect results with this outstanding bit. Deal of the year.

Comes in a nice little reusable plastic sleeve thing. Extremely sharp bit. Drilled 3/16" steel at 500 rpm with no effort. Puts those Irwin carbide bits to shame.

Unfortunately it's not "true", wobbles slightly, and pretty much drills 21/32". If I wanted 21/32", I'd buy 21/32".

The picture looks like the shaft has a squared off part near the end that goes in the drill, but this is completely round so there is no way I can use it in my drill. I have never seen a drill that uses a perfectly round shaft before, but that is what I got. I did get a full refund though so I shouldn't complain, but just beware. If I hadn't gotten a refund I would have given it 1 star because the picture does not look like the shaft is perfectly round.
