Tennis has developed a wonderful sound, an amalgam of a myriad of influences consisting of just a small amount of so many styles, wrapped up to create something different from all of them. Here we have a bit of 60s girl pop, a bit of modern indie, a bit of funk, a bit of later Genesis, a bit of 80s dance, etc... but what makes the end result so worthwhile is the songwriting. Hooks abound, but so do subtleties, enough for this reviewer to get mileage out of repeat listenings. Alaina Moore's voice has improved over the previous years' 'Young and Old' album, and so has the production. The music on Small Sound isn't far from the 'Ritual in Repeat' album, but for those who do have 'Ritual in Repeat', I personally feel the music on 'Small Sound' is slightly stronger. From the uber-catchy 'Mean Streets', to the excellent closer, '100 Lovers', this ep is the most consistent and endearing of all Tennis' fine releases.

Absolutely love this record. Would totally recommend to anyone who enjoys a sort of lo-fi sound. Strong vocals. Also, the color of the vinyl itself was so trippy. I love showing it off to visitors.

I had heard a couple of songs by this act and couldn't get enough. Their sound combines many familiar styles but they make them their own.There is a Motown throwback vibe combined with an almost alt new wave pop. I really enjoy the lead singers voice. The songs are super catchy.
