My wife and sister-in-law each recently purchased a candy Fender California Series Clip-On Tuner. Neither one of them works properly. Hard to get them to turn on when they placed them on their instruments. On one of the tuners used on a guitar, only 4 strings lit up the tuner. Couldn't hit the other 2 strings soft or hard enough for the tuner to register. The other tuner just didn't register. Changed to new batteries. Didn't help. We purchased a couple of blue colored tuners that are working so far. But the unreliability of these tuners so far has caused us to pause and reconsider whether these tuners will ever rise to the level of being our primary tuners. Cute tuners. Just unreliable.

I just got mine and was able to try it out and its very pronounced characteristics allowed me to come to a very solid conclusion and review opinion quickly.

[U]The Good[/U]

As Toby pointed out, one real attraction for this is the highly visible display:

When operating, this truly is extremely bright and can't be missed. Also very helpful is the color coded tuning indicators: The tuner auto-detects your nearest note and displays in very visible bright yellow if you are flat. As you tune up, it turns to bright green and if you are sharp it is very bright red. The entire display lights up and, again, is extremely bright and visible.

The other important feature of this tuner is the auto-power function: As soon as you clip it to your headstock it turns on. Removing it immediately powers off to save battery.

Finally, it is a bit more compact than something like a Snark brand tuner.

[U]The Bad[/U]

The unit is certainly more pocket-friendly than a Snark tuner but still way too large to comfortably fit in a pant pocket.

The jaws of the clip-on were barely large enough to fit over my Taylor headstock. Anything thicker and it might not fit at all.Read more ›

Works great, tunes to pitch perfectly. Only 4 stars because it doesn't have an off on switch.However after a brief time it does turn off automatically as long as you don't touch the strings. It is still good for the price.
