The ExoMount works well as far as securing itself to your CD slot. Of course, this sort of phone mount makes a few assumptions that you will need to verify before purchasing and using it:

1. You really are not going to use your CD drive in your car. Now, this may seem obvious, but you just need to think about your actual usage of CDs.
2. How sturdy is your CD slot? If your CD slot is part of a removable front plate for an add-on player, you should get a feeling for its ability to hold this bracket with a phone in it. The bracket is heavier than most phones. If your front piece is not really super secure, i would worry about this rig knocking it off if you hit a bump in the road.
3. When you have this bracket and your phone, it will block part of your dashboard from access and normal use. Depending on your car, this may just not work for you. For instance, I have a Chevy Volt, and the combo of mount plus phone in the CD slot holds on well, but blocks a lot of essential controls for climate, etc.

After all this, I had a few issues (checked it out on a few of my other three cars).
1. The grippers on the mount are good, but not great. They only have the pressure of the springs in the mount and the rubber shoes on the jaws. Some other mounts have a ratchet mechanism to get tighter on the phone. If the sides of your phone a smooth plastic as mine are, it can slip. So, you need to make sure you angle the phone up a bit to insure that the jaws don't have to take up all the vibration of a bump in the road.
2. It fit my iPhone 4S perfectly, but if you have a larger Android with case, you should check to see if it will fit.

Some positives are the solid construction, easy use (you just push your phone onto it and it locks on), and full adjustability. The solid adjustment lock is a plus, too. And, once mounted in a sturdy CD slot, it stays put.

SO, overall, I give it three because of the fact that slick phones can slip out.

I have the Samsung Note 3 and from time to time find myself needing to use Google Maps instead of my Garmin GPS for directions. Even with the latest maps update, the Garmin sometimes gets it wrong. Thus the search for something to eliminate the need to hold my phone and to keep 2 hands on the wheel while navigating. Frankly, I was very skeptical of the concept of using a CD slot to support, well, anything. It had."hokey" written all over it. I'm happy to report that this ExoMount well exceeded my expectations. I'd actually already purchased a holder that used a suction cup to mount it to the windshield. It functioned, but had too many adjustment points and a clunky design as well as vibration issues. It rendered itself useless when one screw knob vibrated off completely and disappeared. This ExoMount has a much simpler design, and, well, just works. It's also less bulky, more compact and more stable. As an unexpected bonus, I find myself using it inside the house as well since I use my phone as an alarm clock backup, as well as in my frequent hotel room travels. I use the Skype app quite a bit via my phone and the ExoMount makes for a great phone stand in that application as well on my desk using the speakerphone. The phone is held in place very securely and though my Note 3 is a large phone the mount holds it even with my SView cover attached. Well done. Very impressed and satisfied. Highly recommended.

I purchased this based on a recommendation from thewirecutter.com. I do not use it anymore because I got a replacement navigation unit installed in my Tahoe, but while I had it, I was very happy with this mount. It was sturdy and easy to use. I used a Google Nexus 6 with it, which is one of the largest phones available. If it fit, I pretty much guarantee whatever you are using will fit.

Got this because I refuse to put a stick adhesive or suction on my windshield. That would obstruct my view and would mean me having to reach over to control my device. I like the positioning of this particular mount though. My cd Slot is right above my car's radio controls so I can still see the screen and control the radio. I never listen to CDs anyway so it works out great. The position also leaves my phone close enough to my glovebox and my 12V outlet so that i don't have wires trailing and hanging all over my front dash.

My only concern is that the rubber grips within the clamps/grasps are rather sensitive and deform quickly. For he first few days I used my HTC One M8 with a clear puregear case and case a very snug tight and good fit. I later then decided to ditch my case since I loved the sleek look and feel of the naked HTC One, and to my surprise I found that the fit was a little wobbly and not as secure. The phone easily moves around if slide it back and forth and side to side. It hasn't fallen off and nothing else has happened during normal vehicle operation, but Its a shame that the rubber grips deformed so easily. If not for that this might be the perfect mount.

Also should be mentioned that you want to get your phone adjusted and pointing in just the right direction before taking off as it is difficult and unsafe to try to adjust the viewing angles once on the road. For me this is not a problem as once I've found my sweet spot its never changing, but others may find the difficulty in tightening and loosening the mechanism rather bothersome. It'd be a much improved designed if, like the release mechanism, it were designed for one handed use.
