This machine is an absolutely great tool for making stockinette tubes quickly and easily! I had mixed feelings about whether or not to purchase this thing based on negative reviews I had been reading. I have to say that I am extremely impressed, and it has been worth every dollar spent. They even throw in extra needles in case any break, although I can't even think how you would break one, they're that sturdy.

The circumference of a finished beanie in Caron - Simply Soft (doubled for warmth) is big enough to fit a child to medium-sized adult head with a little wiggle room. My boyfriend has a large noggin and he can squeeze into one of the hats, but it isn't very comfortable. A finished tube, laid flat and unstretched, is close to six to eight inches wide, depending on the yarn used.

The most important advice I can give you is to choose the RIGHT YARN for the machine. I have used a wide variety of weights and fibers and here is what I think are the best choices:

1. Worsted Weight - Caron Simply Soft. I can't say enough about how great the Addi Express works with this yarn. I've made scarves, hats, and blanket panels and they turn out great. Not a dropped or twisted stitch to be seen with more than 800 rows on the longest piece I've knit. I cast on and just crank the handle, most of the time I just watch TV and mindlessly knit, that's how dependable the combination is!

2. Worsted Weight - Lion Bran Vanna's Choice. Very occasionally the machine doesn't quite catch a full stitch and splits the yarn on a needle, but it has never been a huge problem as long as I keep an eye out and have a crochet hook handy.

3. Worsted Weight - SMOOTH wool yarns.

I have both the Addi Express and the Addi King Knitting machine. I must say I love both items. It is a quiet machine and rarely drops stitches; if it does it's usually operator error.... Would I recommend this item most definitely. The books are a definite must have as well.... If you like to knit or crochet and are no longer able to with the hooks/needles like me (weak hands etc.) give these a try. You too will love them. The price is definitely worth it as they are well constructed and the counter comes in handy too! Makes both flat panels and tubes....

This is a well made machine. It comes with video instructions. I was able to crank out a half dozen pairs of socks in a few hours. Really fun.

I have fibromyalgia and have pain knitting, so I bought this machine.
It uses needle size yarn 3.5-8mm. I find that using thicker fuzzier yarn is more forgiving. I did one tube and it came out perfect and easy, no dropped stitches. It was the first time I ever used it too.
The machine is also advertised and being able to flat panels knitting. That was the main reason I bought it. It has been impossible to produce a peice of flat knitting without a bad edge. Even with practise and using a fuzzy yarn, I have struggled to make a really long peice (e.g 20+cm) of flat panel knitting without one dropped stitch. Perhaps I need more practise.
It looks like it would be great for socks but the socks can only be bed socks or house socks because the yarn has to be over 4mm needles size if you don't want big spaces round the heel.
Where I live the large professional Addi machine is double the price of this smaller model so I could not afford it but if it were just slightly more expensive, like I see in some US stores, I would reccommend buying the bigger one. The bigger model gives a proper choice in sizing and panels, unlike this. The tubes made in this are one size only for scarves, small house socks and skinny sleeves.
Despite the problems mentioned, I have to say that the general engineering and quality of plastic used in this machine is very good. You can tell it's not a bargain basement "Made in China" thing.

I waited a long time before I left a review to see how well this machine puts up with my demands on it. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this addi machine. It got me through all my christmas orders, and in between orders. I am constantly using this machine to make children's scarves. Perfect size for kids. I am absolutely satisfied. I however can do without the row counter. Very unreliable, but never cared about that. I'm all about the machine performance, and it delivers very well. Fast shipping too! Thank you!

These Addi knitting machines are super. They are sturdy and well made with internal parts designed in Germany...NOT CHINA. You get what you pay for. They use heavier yarns which is also a plus. Light baby yarns will not work in these types of machines. I have the King and the regular. Lovem both. Have bought several for gifts as well. Patterns books are available for these but you have to really look around online for them. You can knit pretty much anything you could imagine on these. They are the best machines made and you will really enjoy knitting on them especially if you have carpal tunnel like I do.

I purchased both Addi Express machines (regular and king size)....both are awesome. Love the speediness of creating knitted flat panels. Just join the panels for super fast fashions, blankies, shawls, pillows, etc. Making hats and scarves, etc. (when knitting in the round) is alot of fun too. As with any new gadget, take the time to familiarize yourself with it before cranking away...save yourself some frustration by looking up the excellent 'how to' videos on You Tube! The written instructions and books accompanying the machines are OK, but it's so much easier to learn by watching them in action. I recommend either machine, depends on the size of the items you intend on making. Have fun!
