Works great on heavily neglected paint.

BEWARE: THIS WILL INDUCE MARRING AND LIGHT SCRATCHING ON DARKER COLORED PAINT, IF IT IS SUCCESSFULLY PULLING HEAVY CONTAMINATES FROM YOUR PAINT! SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MARK THIS PRODUCT DOWN BECAUSE IT CAUSED YOU TO SCRATCH YOUR BEAUTIFUL BLACK PORSCHE.

This is more or less a specialty clay for really bad, old, neglected paint. So if you are using this clay bar on paint, you are 99% guarenteed to be following this with a polish or light compound. Chances are, if it's this bad to start with - you're gonna need to polish it out anyways. I follow a black-clay job with Chemical Guys V38 or V36. Something. Also be sure to clean, knead, and dispose of this properly. It's hard to see dirt because of it's color, so be mindful of this.

Simple procedures will give you good results. But expect to be polishing or at least using a paint cleaner afterwards to get rid of find scratches.

I also want to point out that this works WONDERFUL when claying glass. No you will not scratch your glass. It handles rocks at freeway speeds, sand, the sun, acid rain, everything else - bird crap, sap, leaves, whatever. It could care less about the clay. In fact I use old no-longer-for-paint use clay when I am washing a vehicle on glass. Recycling old materials is always a good idea! Cost effective way of removing light water spotting and contamination. Glass cleaner and car-washing will *not* remove sap and bonded contaminates from glass, but this will. This is what gives glass that silky smooth feel again. Heavy water etching will need heavy treatment, such as a dedicated glass polish. But this with your soapy water will remove 99% of whatever is on your glass.

This product took tiny metal shards off of my car. The shards I had are called "fallout". They came from a person who was grinding a metal pipe near my car. The shards were left on my car for over a month during litigation. They had rusted and it looked HORRIBLE. This clay bar took everything off. I needed more than one bar, but I made it work with just one. Be VERY careful. I did put micro-scratches in my paint in one small area (15cm by 8cm) because I did not follow the proper procedure for less than 30 seconds. The debris in the clay needs to be folded back inside the bar, frequency depending on the quantity of debris, otherwise you will harm your paint.

This is the first clay product I've used, so I can't compare it to similar products. However, I can say that my experience using this product was excellent. I washed my car with soap and water like normal, and then used clean, very soapy water to lubricate the clay. My method was to gently wipe the wet, soapy clay over my car's panels, and if there was a particularly tough spot, press a little harder and use it as sort of an eraser - it has the same effect. Afterward, spray down with water and admire! Using just this product (no polish or wax) restored an incredible shine to my car that I have never seen before. I highly recommend using this product for removing surface contamination. As a follow-up, I used Meguiar's G19216 Ultimate Polish and Meguiar's G18216 Ultimate Liquid Wax, and my car now has a mirror finish. Excellent!

I was a little concerned when the bars showed up and they were as small as the Turtle Wax ICE bar (discontinued?) or the Maguire's clay kit bar, but that soon passed as soon as a started using it.

These things are TOUGH. I used it first on a never-before-clayed VW Passat (white) with fantastic results. Then I used it on my S60R which had been clayed numerous times as well as wet sanded, and it still managed to make it smoother.

Unlike other bars, which get really soft and thin as you are using them, requiring constant kneading and reshaping, these bars maintained a usable thickness, even on the hot black paint of the R.

I haven't even tapped into the second bar yet, I think I can get 1 or 2 more uses out of the first bar.

The only con (which really isn't) is that the black clay can make rub marks on white paint. However, I found that waxing the car with Chemical Guys Butter Wax removed all those rub marks with zero effort.

Use this on cars that have never been clayed and need to be polished, as stated on the packaging.
This clay is very dense and hard to kneed, it has marred every paint i have tried it on.
Followup with a finer clay and then polish is required.
I'm giving it 4 stars even because its exactly what the manufacturer says it is.

Bought to remove overspray from a rust repair paint job I did. I have bought lots of chemical guys clay bars, but only the light and medium (blue and gray) bars in the past. I love those, but I honestly was not that impressed with this "heavy duty" clay. It seems really stiff and hard to knead compared to the lighter stuff, and didn't seem to remove many more impurities. I didn't notice any marring, but it was on pretty rough new clear so I can't be sure about that one.
