You put this down first to clean and prime new PVC before gluing it. Same as the purple stuff but is used where piping may be visible (outdoor locations). Using the purple stuff just provides visible feed back that you are applying it completely around the pipe which is great for beginners or locations within a house where it will not bee seen once glued and you want to make sure the seal will be complete one glued. Use this once you have experience with PVC and can properly prepare a pipe without mistakes.
