As much as I was excited about getting this watch, and it's really good product in many aspects, but I just packed it up for return and will be taking it back to Best Buy today. Here is why.
I won't talk about aesthetic and looks as you could see it well on pictures. I'll try to stick to functionality of the watch.
HR measurement works well. It registered my HR accurately when I sit, walk and exercise.
But you'll have to wear it very snugly. It become an issue for me after 8 or so hours of use. My wrist gets tired. Basis is recommending to wear it above wrist-bone and I see why. It works well there, but when my wrist got tired after day of wearing it, I tried to lower the watch below wrist-bone and HR measuring just won't work there. Of course you could move the watch to the other hand to solve it.
Main functionality of this watch is automation to recognize activity and sleep without any input from the user. Activity recognition works very well for step-based exercise. But I also do weight and cross-fit training and this is where this automation does not work and moreover becomes an issue. Take my regular gym work-out as an example. It starts with treadmill or stair master for warm-up - Peak works very well, counts steps, measures HR and calories. My HR is about 150-160 and Peak is not failing to measure it. But when I switch to lunges, squats ets., Peak thinks I'm done exercising and stops the activity. When it does it, it also stops measuring my HR even though I'm still at 160 bpm level. So my yesterday 50 mins warm-up and cross-fit work-out Peak registers as multiple activities with broken HR measurements. So calories count goes too as it based on HR data. Both the watch and app will show this one 50 mins workout as 3-4 separate activities.Read more ›
