...this drive bay is greate, I use it to insert a backup drive to clone my OS Drive in case it fails, I just insert the new cloned drive and boot the PC with this drive, I also can used to back up information on external drives. it works perfectly!!! ...it is sturdy and well done. it connects to a SATA port on your motherboard and you can power it with a SATA POWER cable or a MOLEX.

This is the best use you can give to your bays in the PC.

I recently tested out this hot swappable drive and there are some very good pros... and some cons.

SO let's start with the Positives

- Easy to install.
- Security! You can take the OS or files easily with you or store them to a backup location if required.
- Speed! Using the SATAIII connection on the drive is no different than having it stored in the case. If anyone has ever waited for a large backup to take place over a USB connection, you will be wishing you had this unit a long time ago.
- USB connection and adapter settings. Pull out the drive, and take it with you and plug into any computer with a USB connection.
- nice blue light on the included USB adapter to let you know when drive is being accessed.
- Have a large media library? Load the drive up in the computer at SATAIII speeds. Take it out, plug it into your smart TV and watch away.

The quibbles.
- After the hard drive is installed in the unit... it's very difficult to get back out. The clips are very good at holding it into the housing but when the drive died and had to be replaced I was worried I might break the plastic housing (care is needed but was able to swap drive). This may or may not be an issue since you can buy the extra cases. (Or maybe I'm just a little thick fingered ;)
- a fair bit of force is needed to insert the drive as well as remove.
- storage location for USB adapter would be helpful. (or something to protect the SATA connectors while in storage)

Overall I have to say I really like this unit.
It was easy to install and feels very solid.
The performance is what I was expecting and while I didn't get a chance to test this on a Windows 8 machine which is said to have even better performance in the USB3.

Although USB 3.0 is fast, it's still not as fast as SATA, and it's generally limited to internal use only. While there is a specification for external SATA using eSATA, the fact is it's not quite portable unless every computer you plan to use it with has an eSATA port.

This device eliminates that problem by adding a simple dock to your desktop computer that lets you simply slide 2.5 inch SATA drive in and get full speed access, then just pop the drive out and insert a tiny USB 3.0 adapter.

The internal tray itself is plastic, and it serves mainly to guide the drive in and out. The drive case is made from aluminum, and quite strong. This form factor is just like the Seagate GoFlex, except it adds the convenience of popping the drives directly into your desktop or server.

As a tech guy, I'm often asked to evaluate new products like this. The biggest thrill comes from finding stuff that I didn't even know existed. This was one of those items and I was so glad I had the chance to try it.

I hope you found this useful. Feel free to post any questions or comments.
