Soon after turning 60, I developed acne for the first time - on one cheek. During adolescence, I only had occasional and mild skin problems, and then had no blemishes for 40 years, so this was an unpleasant surprise. These clearasil ultra action pads had good reviews, so I tried them daily......for week after week, assuming that it would take awhile before they had noticeable results. I also used a daily cleanser and nighttime moisturizer.

Well, the results were noticeable within a few days, but not what I hoped for. The acne spread. Yes, the redness would lessen after three or four hours of using these pads, but eventually it would show again. And during six weeks it spread all over one side of my face and then started on the other. It didn't occur to me at the time that the clearasil pads might be worsening the problem.

Finally I researched acne medications and discovered that for some people, products that contain salycylic acid (which these clearasil pads have) work best, whereas others respond to products with benzoyl peroxide (which clearasil also manufactures). I switched to clearasil rapid action vanishing treatment cream with benzoyl peroxide, and even though it's supposed to take two weeks to show results, I experienced improvement within only a few days.

Products with benzoyl peroxide fight acne caused by bacteria and are especially effective with red, inflamed blemishes. Products with salicylic acid are best for blackhead, and blemishes related to dead skin cells and clogged pores. Some people respond well to one, some to the other, and some find that using both is most effective. Since both products tend to dry the skin, I recommend using a daily moisturizer with whichever product you use. And if you start using these pads, and your acne worsens during the first few weeks, I definitely suggest that you stop using them and switch to a benzoyl peroxide product instead.

It seems like this product worked better when I first started using it. This product has the same active ingredient in it as is in Proactiv's products, but at a higher percentage. I had used Proactiv before trying this product and, interestingly enough, some comments made by others about Proactiv is that 1) it seems to stop working eventually or doesn't work as well as time goes on, and 2) the active ingredient actually works best at a lower percentage. It seems that now when I apply this cream, it does nothing for my skin, whereas before I could actually fail to follow the directions of using it 3 times a day and the spots where I had acne would clear up quickly (and this product works differently from Proactiv, perhaps because of the difference in percentage of benzoyl peroxide and more products used in its treatment). In addition, this cream, unlike Proactiv, actually dries my skin out in the spots where I use it. If my skin isn't a little moist when I apply this cream, then the cream leaves dried white spots/flakes where I rub it in.

There are two reasons why this product won't always work/might not work on your acne:

1) The active ingredient is supposed to fight acne caused only by bacteria. However, not all acne is caused by bacteria. So, if you have a breakout because of clogged pores (you probably need sulfur as the active ingredient) or dead skin cells (you probably need salicylic acid/exfoliators), then products with benzoyl peroxide are not what you need. This is the reason why most elaborate acne treatments, such as Proactiv and the Clean & Clear system, include several products for you to use--each generally has a different active ingredient so that they can treat all these major causes of acne. I haven't bought this product in a couple of years (was still using an old tube) but thought I should update. The new product is a terrible reddish dark color! I try to think whose complexion it would work on and can't think of anyone! (I have a very average medium skin tone) I definitely can't wear this in public which defeats the purpose of the tint. Very disappointing...

This product works but make sure the expiration date is not old. The one we received was expiring in 60 days and the color of the pads are a bit yellowish. Also, the container looks different from the one shown in the picture. Seller originally wanted us to ship back the item which will cost almost the amount we bought it for. I added another star for amazon because they mediated to give us a refund.

I use a lot of facial wipes - I like the convenience, and sometimes I am too lazy to get up and wash my face. To me a good wipe will remove makeup and cleanse without drying or irritating my skin. A great wipe will do that and provide another benefit like pore minimizing or acne reduction.
These clearasil wipes do all three things. They have a pleasant but not overpowering scent that dissipates quickly.

The only problem with these is the size. " On the go " means a wipe that is quite small. So small that I found it impossible to clean my whole face with one wipe, even when I flipped it over to use both sides. They are so small that having to use 2 wipes makes it a costlier and less convenient solution.
