In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

    A good pair of running shoes shouldn't cost $100.
    I bought two paris of these shoes for marathon training, and they have worked out great.
    So far, 200 miles on each pair and they have not worn much inside and out.

    In my experience, ASICS makes two types of shoes -- very supportive and comfortable running shoes, and stylish but flat street shoes. These fall into the former category, but are more clean in design than most of their models. I concluded years ago that ASICS running shoes just happen to have the correct shape of arch support for my foot, and these are no exception.

    I love to wear ASICS running shoes to work. So many of the running shoes these days have bright fluorescent colors in them. I do not consider those flashy shoes work-friendly. These black primary colored shoes are much more subtle in style. They are surprisingly light and work as a good substitute to my much more expensive Gel Nimbus series (for walking anyway). Most importantly, they are neutral, so they work great with my custom orthotics. I found that they work best for me with a half size up from my non-orthotic shoe size.

    I liked the cushioning and the way most of the shoe felt. But it seemed like it opened up and got WAY too wide around the ball of my foot and the toes, it was too much room. I know shoe sizes differ depending on the brand and which model etc but this 9.5 felt more like a 10-10.5.
    After one attempted run, I listed them for sale on eBay.

    Really love these shoes, my 4th or 5th pair of Asics, great for the treadmill or tack, the only thing that I noticed is that they don't breathe as well as the Gel-Blur 2's. But probably put on 5-6 miles in the few days I've had them, shocked by how comfortable for the price

    My one problem with most Asics shoes is the giant, massively cushioned gel soles. This shoe actually has a much thinner, lower profile sole and has a lot more response than other Asics I've tried. It reminds me more of many of the Brooks shoes in the mid range.

    The reflective spots are VERY reflective - nice for running in dim light. The colors in the photo are pretty accurate. The stripes do shoe up nicely. I often wear these to work since they're very comfortable for walking around for hours. And the green soles and accents are very cool.

    I purchase this shoe while it was on sale for a half marathon. This will be my first Asics running shoe for a long run. I thought I was going to break it in before the run, but didn't get to. Instead I ise it for the big day and surprisingly it work really well. The gel cushion pading works really well, i notice I wasn't stomping my feet while listening to music like so many runners. I didn't get any blisters or crunch toes, which is a first so far. My next run I'll be using Asics again, I have never use Nike shoes and plan not too.
