In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Asics are my most comfortable shoes hands down, but the Gel Kahana series seems to fit me even better. Comfortable right out of the box and comes in wide sizes. I have plantar facititis and bone spurs and these help my feet more than any orthotic or insole!! I am a nurse so long standing and walking and these make the day go smoother!!

They are very comfortable and support well

I got these for trail running. They are very comfortable and support well. Have run on gravel, dirt, grass and asphalt. I feel they give excellent arch support and the tread is perfecting for gripping surfaces both uphill and down. I have not run through water yet, so cannot say if they would be comfortable to run through a stream. As will any shoe there is some slippage when hitting slick surfaces such as mud and slimy rocks. But I am definitely pleased with these shoes.

Addendum to my original review. I still love these shoes for trail running. I have gotten them wet and can still run well when wet. My editing is regarding the quality. I have only had these shoes for 2 months, ran 91 miles, total of 15 times. The bottom of the shoe has pieces coming unglued and the toe piece is also coming loose. So disappointed that they are not lasting longer.

Not quite the same as my previous pair of Kahanas

These were a replacement for my last pair, but they are not quite the same. The arch and insole is not as nicely padded as the previous model, and the tongue below the laces is noticeably shorter and doesn't offer as much protection against trail dust.

Extra pair only

Bought these to run once a week on trail. They are not high end running shoes. But they are good for once or twice a week on trails. Rugged soles to handle rough terrain. If you run regularly use higher end shoes or you will get hurt.
Fit true to size. Nice color.

Update. Used these off on long hike and feet and arch sore for days. These are not good for regular or long activity. Not typical asics quality.

Terrible show.

I purchased these sneakers because I loved my GEL-Kahana 6 so much. I was also very excited about the new colors available. However, with less than a month into wearing them they squeak continuously and it is very annoying to walk around with them on and hearing such a loud and squeaky noise that I stopped wearing them. I will no longer buy sneakers from Amazon because the return policy is so limited. I would rather pay more for a pair of sneakers with a more flexible return policy. I am disappointed in ASICS for selling such a poorly made product.

Very Disappointing

I have been wearing the Kahana 6's for two years and I absolutely love them. I was excited when they released the Kahana 7's because of the new variety in colors to choose from. I bought a pair and within 2 weeks, I developed hip and knee pain. I switched back to the 6's and the knee pain went away. I don't know what Asics changed between the 6 and the 7, but I"m definitely not a fan.

Comfortable and long wearing

I've purchased several pairs of this style of shoes. I have been wearing this model for several years. I have foot pain in my arches but run about 8-9 miles a week. I need extra padding and these are the best I've found. This style (Kahana) doesn't have the best look or color but it does give me comfort so I settle for these. I have found with ASIC's that I need to go up a half size, so where I normally wear a 9 in everyday shoes, I go up to the 9 1/2 in athletics.

These are trail runners, not mall runners! (And that's awesome!)

I always liked Asics shoes - they are the most comfortable for my feet. So, when I was looking for some trail runners for my first through-the-woods 5K, I specifically looked for Asics and found these. All I can really say is, "Wow!" These shoes are EXCELLENT for running trails! I had to deal with loose rocks, mud, tree roots, wet grass, and some major hills. These shoes really helped me keep my footing, enough so that I placed in my age group because I wasn't afraid of taking a wrong step. (I usually am pretty slow, so I was thrilled when I found out!)

There are a lot of reviews on here stating that these squeak when walking on engineered surfaces. Why would you wear these shoes inside??? Take a look at the picture of the soles - there are nubs that go forward and backward to help you on uneven surfaces. If you wear them for other tasks, they will still be comfortable, but unnatural surfaces are going to wear away the nubs and render these not useful for trails much more quickly.

So, stick to using these shoes for their intended purposes, and you will absolutely love them!
