Love it.

Elgarto make (in my opinion) the best solid state drives. I have an original 250 gb bought some years ago when they were first released.

I have now added the 500 gb to my collection. I am particularly pleased with the newly added option of a usb3 port as well as the thunderbolt.

It doesn't need a fan, but it does need 'breathing space'. For example, don't have it under you bed covers or let it slip down next to you on the chair.

I find it fast and strong. And very apple like simple.

Purchased a new iMac and tried to get by with my old spinning back-up hard drives via USB. The speed of those was OK for running my itunes library but there was a delay in actions that bothered me a bit. For some reason it was always waking up for something (even with computer asleep) and that was annoying. After a couple months I realized I just had to jump into 2014.

Tried a OWC solution that didn't come alive under bus power and even after getting juice was not seen by Yosemite. So that brought me to the financial heart break that is Elgato. But it's perfect. First thunderbolt device I've owned and it just sits there practically invisible beneath my 27" monitor and does it's speedy (instantaneous) work. It's like an internal drive

Hope prices come down in the coming year so I can get a couple 1g drives to run them raid 1

It never made any sense to me to use an old spinning drive (even at 7200 rpm) behind Thunderbolt technology. I was pleased to hear Elgato released a Thunderbolt SSD and I bought one. File transfer is so much faster, about 10 minutes for 100 gigabytes. About my only complaint is that the Thunderbolt cable that comes with the drive is very short.
