I was hesitant to buy such a low priced instrument, but the dealer has a 30 day no questions asked return policy.
I bought mine from K&K, which is a vendor on Amazon and eBay. It's cheaper to get it on eBay. No tax and free shipping.

I am very impressed with the quality of this instrument in this price range. The tone is good even without plugging it in. Be advised though, that this has a passive pickup, rather than the active battery powered one in the fully electric model. I have one of those, too, and love it, and that's why I got this, to try it out. And, to have a beater rather than always playing and traveling with my very good violin. You can't tell from the picture, but the black color paint has a subtle glitter effect, which looks great.

This model will be great for a gig when playing with other amplified instruments. I didn't get any feedback on my Bugera V5 tube amp until I had the gain up to 5. So it work well with that.

The case is also good quality. There is nothing about this package that screams "cheap", except maybe for the bow. I'm not using it, as I have two other really good and expensive bows. If you want to buy a good bow to use with this violin, you have to try one in person at a music store to find the right one for you. They all have a different feel. And, there is a big difference between cheap bows and good ones, so be prepared to pay at least as much or even much more for a good bow, as for this whole violin. It's a good investment if you're going to be serious about playing. Don't skimp on the bow! That's where the sound is produced.

You may luck out with this package and get a decent bow. In that case, the first time you use it, use a LOT of rosin to get it going, and keep re-applying it. This is normal.Read more ›

I was very hesitant purchasing, but I am so glad I did. Beautiful violin with great sound quality for the price. I am very pleased with my purchase. Please keep in mind that this is not a Stradivarius, I don't know what you're expecting to hear if you're just starting or someone who has never played before. It will not sound like you've popped out of a classical music recording. Like all things new, the instrument needs to be "broken in." Here's an example: way back in school, I loved to play my friend's violin that had been in her family for over 100 years instead of my own Strad reproduction that was only 5 years old. Why? It sounded so beautiful compared to something made of newer wood. Change the strings if you want, but the sound quality will still be the same. As far as the paint job, I read one review about the neck not being painted. I have never seen or played any violin with the neck painted. All have always had "just the wood" That includes the high dollar Yamaha electric violin my school had. Please don't let that discourage your purchase of this violin. The bow was even great for the price of this outfit, which is more than I can say for my last electric violin. Overall, this is an AWESOME violin outfit. You won't be disappointed!

Great Electric Violin, It comes with everything you will need to start learning or playing the instrument. Its build well and sounds nice when plugged into a amp ect. It can also be played acoustically. I can't really come up with many bad things about this instrument at this price tag It's a pretty solid deal.

Pros:
1 Has everything you will need to start playing
2 no setup or bridge work required
3 can be played with or without a amp
4 cord comes out on the right side, if you have ever had a electric violin where it comes out on the left you know why this is a pro
5 Unbelievable price

Cons:
Can't really think of any, maybe cheap strings that you will need to upgrade?

I am very pleased with the quality of this violin. I am a gigging musician and needed an instrument that I was comfortable taking to bars, festivals, etc. I was concerned that the electronics would be poor, but I was amazed how good the instrument sounds when mixed through our system. I haven't had any feedback, which is more than I can say for my expensive condenser mics that I use on my other acoustic instruments.

The violin needs a little TLC when it arrives. I had to do some serious cleaning and oiling. The ebony was filthy and dry but about 30 minutes of work and it really came to life. I also changed out the strings to some D'Addario Preludes and bought a quality rosin cake. The bow leaves a little to be desired and the rest is garbage. The case, however, is very nice.

All in all, for about $140 total I got an instrument that stays tuned well and sounds great with a band. It may not stand up as well in an orchestra application, but for my needs it was perfect.

The violin itself is beautiful, packaging left it in good condition. (No scratches) *KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY* pegs, strings, and bow are cheap. But what do you expect? It's a cheaply priced violin. The violin body itself is great, but everything is a little sad in it's cheapness. The first time I tried to tune it the E string popped off and the pegs wouldn't stay in place. So I took it in to be fixed and the repair people said "Your bridge is too high, your strings are cheap, and your pegs are too large." So they basically made it a new violin besides the electric soundbox stuff inside and besides the actual wood of the violin. So that costed me $60, not super bad for it to be a good violin. Very worth buying for anyone who wants to own their very own violin, just know that you may have to get some things fixed on it.
