Purchased one to try and loved it so much that I got one for each member of my family and a few more to gift. I have found that if you don't get the gasket in properly it will leak, but I would say it is user error not a design flaw. Once gasket is seated properly I've had no issues. On a side note, I was able to purchase this locally for a lower price than what I've seen on Amazon, so you may want to shop around.

An awesome idea from the nice people at Ball. Bottom line: it's a lid with an insert that holds things (berries, fruit, peppers, mint, tea, etc...) beneath the liquid level to let the flavors seep into the liquid. I suspect most folks would use it for fruit water cold infusion. It fits a Ball/Kerr wide-mouth jar and has a sealing gasket in the lid. There's a "sippy slot" in the top of this so it's not airtight/watertight. You can drink from it with the infusion in place. I suspect most folks will attempt a cold infusion far too quickly to accomplish noticeable flavor changes - if you let your infusion sit a while (like a day) before drinking it will have some strength. Throwing some mild fruit in with some cold water and immediately drinking makes a pretty weak infusion but it works.

The holes are big enough to allow some pass through of small bits like berry seeds. This is easily solved by lining it with a coffee filter or cheese cloth cut to size. Lining it to filter will slow the infusion. The infuser doesn't extend far into the jar, only 4". A wide-mouth standard pint jar is just under 5" tall. The pint-and-a-half and the quart are just under 7" and the two quart is almost 9.5". It would seem that this is designed to be a best fit in the pint jar but it works to infuse any jar over 4" tall. A standard wide-mouth half-pint is only 3.88" tall, not gonna be a good fit. Of course, logically, the more liquid, the weaker the infusion if ingredient and time remain constant. Careful if you're planning to use the "drinking mugs" design jars, most of those are regular mouth jars.

A couple uses beyond fruit water you may, or may not, be interested in. It can infuse any fruit/vegetable/herb into any liquid.

Using these infuser lids lets one have the "adult" sippy cup, plus deliciously flavored water. I really enjoy crushing some fresh mint, or lemon slices (ginger, too) and adding them to the infuser. The water is refreshing and not just plain old water, which is healthy, but does get boring after a while. I use these on the 24 oz wide mouth glass Ball jars that have a handle and also on the quart-size, no handle jars. Works on the Redneck Beer mugs, too!

This is a nice attachment to my ball jars- I'm able to put a wedge or two of lemons or cumcumbers and it infuses with the water on a wide-mouth ball jar. The one drawback is that the infuser basket is pretty short; once you take a few sips the fruit is no longer submerged in the liquid so that's when bacteria can start to develop. Keep and eye on it- otherwise, nice little accessory to the Ball product line.

This works really well for all sorts of purposes. I stick a green tea bag in the top of the infuser and screw it into the drinking lid. Keeping it at the top keeps the tea from over infusing. I have also placed loose herbs in a coffee filter and put that in the infuser, screw it in and wait for the infusion process. This is an alternative to boiling the herbs and the results are the same for me. The herbs are still effective and I receive benefit. I have yet to put fruit or lemon in the infuser, but I am sure it will work as well. It did occur to me to make a washable stainless steel food grade screen for the infuser to use instead of using the coffee filter, but that is yet another project on the list.

These are pretty cool - what a great idea. Always wanted an infuser water bottle and, since we love mason jars as glasses in our house, this was the perfect way to get the best of both worlds. The problem is, the rubber ring that goes around the top of the mason jar to provide the seal so your drink won't pour all over you when you take a sip - it's hard to get it on just right. Also, the diffuser was made to work in a variety of sizes of jars, so it isn't as long/doesn't go as deep as I would like for the taller mason jar glasses. Other than that, it works as promised and provides a cool, fruity flavor to plain old water. Also works great for adding lemon to sweet tea!

I take it to the Gym. In my car. I wish there was a car holder that would accommodate a bell jar. However i created one and I am hardly away from my water jar with the infuser.

I try to drink a lot of water everyday. This really helps with flavoring - You just cut up some lemons, limes, or add any fruit to the infuser - screw on the top, and enjoy! The seal has NOT leaked once! (I handwash just because it's easier to rinse and let dry right when I'm done using) The top is kinda like a sippy cup. A skinny straw would probably fit, but the straws that come with the other mason jar lids are too wide for this top.
