got this to replace the bari sax that my son had to carry back and forth. He loves his sax but it is too big for him to carry back and forth and too expensive. So I got this for him for band class and he loves it. He can keep up with it and it plays well and his teacher said it was a great starter instrument. And the color pops!

The clarinet is wonderful. It sounds great and is fantastic for learning. The only minor problem was that the case doesn't have a screw on one side of the handle, so I will contact the company and ask them what's up with that.

Absolute piece of crap. Bought because my daughter is in advanced lessons and felt we should buy one to practice at home. Very off key, and after 4 months of few hours a week use, thing is broken, keys were never right and repair shop won't even attempt to fix bc it's that poorly made. I guess you get what you pay for. 1/3 the price of name bands, 1/8 the Quailty. Nevertheless on our way to buy a decent one now.

PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IN A CLARINET OR HAVE NO EXPERIENCE SELECTING AND PURCHASING INSTRUMENTS!!!

I have been a clarinet player for almost 5 years now. I am a 10th grade high school student versed on several instruments of all types: woodwind, brass, percussion, etc.

Here begins:
These clarinets are crap. unless you (or your child) has a nack for breaking clarinets in half every month, you'd be better off using craigslist if you want under $100. These clarinets here are bad, a lot of you parents don't understand instrument things yet. If your child wants to get better after their first year or two, they'll need a better, more expensive instrument than this. I have tested several clarinets of this make, they feel terrible and their sound is very poor compared to my own, ancient clarinet. (My clarinet is wooden and in poor condition, and it cost me $50 on Craigslist and $15 in repairs, this clarinet is about 30 years past the date it should have been used, but it still sounds and functions better than any of the 9 Clarinets of this make)

Another reason is that this clarinet is produced cheaply. I have seen 2 other brand names produce this type of clarinet. Not a different clarinet, THIS clarinet, everything is the same (including color options) except the logo stamped on the parts.

Craigslist also isn't the best place. Look for a music store in your area. I don't know if Schmidt music is nationwide, but they are a good music store, and you can rent fine instruments from them, double win. Music stores also know more than amazon, they can give users actual advice and answer just about any question you or your child may have about the instrument.

Just remember, when it comes to instruments, you're getting what you pay for. Professionals buy several-thousand-dollar clarinets for a reason: you're getting what you pay for.
