In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness.     I own about 5 pairs of asics, and I'm always a size 8 but these run a little small. I almost thought I should return them but let them sit in my closet too long. It works to break them in, they fit OK. I don't wear them to workout, just as leisure due to size

    These shoes are very disappointing. They are very snug,and I bought the size I have for over 15 years. They are also cheaply made and look cheap for the price. I never send anything back,I just throw them in the back of my closet and they are never seen again.

    I made the mistake of buying these without trying them on first, and I completely regret buying them now. I read other reviews and thought other reviewers were exaggerating, so I ignored it. BIG MISTAKE!

    Here's what's wrong:
    1)THEY ARE INCREDIBLY NARROW. Not too small, but too narrow. I ordered a half size up on these shoes, and they fit the length of my foot fine; However, I don't know who has a foot *that* incredibly narrow! I have a normal-to-narrow width foot for size 9-9.5, and I've never had a problem with shoes being too narrow. I can wear other narrow-ish shoes with no problem. When I pulled these out of the box, they even look really narrow to the naked eye. They fit incredibly tight around the ball of your foot, specifically. I can wear them, but I had to re-lace my shoes a specific way, and I also have to wear the laces extra loose.
    2) They are really flat. These shoes are supposed to be "neutral," which means they are meant for people with high arches. The arch support is fine; however, the footbed over the ball of your foot is so flat/short (height wise) I had to swap out the thick Asics insoles with thinner insoles from a pair of my Brooks running shoes. I was able to remedy this problem for the most part with that. The good news is, my favorite pair of running shoes (the Brooks) that I swapped the insoles out with, now have thicker cushier insoles (even they didn't need them since they were far superior shoes to begin with).
    3)The shoe laces are so incredibly long! What the heck!? With my shoes tied the laces drag the floor! I have to double knot to keep them from dragging, which I hate having to do...if you tie your shoes correctly, you don't need to double knot and your laces will never accidentally come untied.
