This was the worst ball of yarn I have ever purchased. I used 1/4 of the skein and encountered 4 places where the yarn was joined together in a knot. The yarn is pretty and soft, but quality control should never allow so many ties in one skein of yarn. I see even more on the left over skein. They must of saved all the left over yarn at production and joined it all together in this on skein of yarn. I am a novice knitter and these knots really messed up the hat I knitted. I am so disappointed in this purchase.

This yarn is four ply, or four strands twisted into one and you have to be very observant, more than let's say Red Heart yarn, because of imperfections. The imperfections appear in the form of a section where the yarn is not wound tight enough and you have the four strands, but they are loose. Because of that, you could very easily only pick up three of the strands with the needle and if you don't catch it, you could have a pucker or an area where the surface of the product is not ever and you can see the imperfection.

I purchased a skein of the Heartland Yarn to knit a scarf. It was super soft, not at all scratchy, and the finished product was really warm.

I found the yarn very easy to knit and the Glacier Bay color is really beautiful.

I look forward to working on more projects with this yarn.

UPDATE: I removed one star. The project that I made with Glacier Bay is great. I loved it so much that I bought 3 skeins of Acadia and 1 skein of Mount Rainier. The Mount Rainier has been fine, but the Acadia has been a slight disappointment. Within the skeins the yarn has been frayed, torn, or much thicker than normal. I still love this yarn, but I was disappointed in the inconsistency of the Acadia color yarn. It hasn't been a widespread problem, but it has shown up in a few places each skein.

Making a cute fox hat with a long scarf attached to it. I got this yarn at Walmart but didn't buy enough (sigh). Sadly I was not able to find the color there again so had to buy it at a higher price here. BUT that's pretty much my own fault and does not reflect on the yarn itself.

Lion Brand is one of my favorites and this yarn is very nice. I love the Heartland colors in general and this is a nice brick red. If you buy other Heartland colors, it matches up very nicely and of course, since it's Lion Brand, it's nice and soft.

I used this yarn for my first crochet project, a flag afghan. I am more of a knitter. I purchased it in red, acadia and blue. They were all wonderful to work with. The colors were rich, the yarn is soft and it did not untwist or fray in anyway. At one point, I had to pull out stitches three times (my first crochet project) and it was still easy to work with. The color of acadia is more of a cream color. I will use the Heartland yarns again for a crochet or knitting project. I really like the feel of it.

For an acrylic yarn that is readily available in the big box hobby shops, Lion Brand Heartland knits up nicely. It has good stitch definition, doesn't fall apart while you're knitting; doesn't feel like you're knitting with recycled plastic as some acrylics do. It isn't prone to splitting while you're working with it. Some of the colors in this line, especially the darker colors, look very nice. The Redwood shade is a rich looking deep red - neither a bright fire engine red, nor a wine color.

Although I think this is pretty good for a cheap acrylic, if I were going to invest 20+ hours of my time in a project I would use a better quality, natural fiber yarn - especially if I'm making something like a sweater, or a future heirloom piece such as an afghan or blanket. But for a quick project like a scarf, or something that you plan to toss in the washing machine like a dog sweater, this is fine.

Something to keep in mind, Lion Brand Heartland is carried by most of the big box craft and hobby stores like Michael's and Joanne's; it's even available at Walmart - usually for under five dollars. I placed an order for three skeins on Amazon which was filled over the course of a week in three different shipments. Thankfully dye lots don't seem to matter much with this.

Oh my gosh I am loving this yarn! My daughter saw it being used for a specific crochet hat pattern she wanted and requested I get the exact same yarn. I usually make my crochet projects using RHSS, so this is majorly luxurious compared to that! It is so soft and silky. And it slides off my crochet hook very nicely. It does seem like it's a bit more prone to separating a bit while working with it, but not to any negative degree. The color is a luscious, almost heather grey, and it shines in the light. It's truly just beautiful yarn. I will definitely be buying more of this type of yarn.
