Directions
Adult Dog Feeding: The recommended feeding amounts indicated are based upon the average nutritional needs of an adult dog with normal activity (using a standard 8 oz./250mL measuring cup, which contains approximately 96g of Purina ONE). Factors, such as a dog's metabolism, breed size, activity level, age and whether the dog is spayed or neutered, will affect the amount of Purina ONE needed to maintain an ideal body condition. The pet experts at Purina have provided the feeding amounts indicated as a starting point. If you find that your dog is losing weight or becomes overweight when fed these amounts, please adjust accordingly. To help your dog maintain an ideal body condition, monitor your dog's weight on a regular basis, making sure that his ribs are easily felt and the waist is visible when viewed from above. Maintaining an ideal body condition can impact your dog's lifelong health. Puppy Feeding: Start puppies on moistened Purina ONE as early as they will nibble at solid foods, generally 3-4 weeks of age. Feed pups (to six months of age) all of the moistened or dry Purina ONE they will consume at intervals throughout the day. If water is added, use no more than one part warm (not hot) liquid to four parts Purina ONE, changing frequently to ensure freshness. If fed dry, this formula may be kept before pups at all times. When Feeding for Reproduction: Purina ONE provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's good body condition. Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation. Making the Switch to Purina ONE: Although you'll be anxious to see the difference Purina ONE can make in your dog, please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from his current food and a little more Purina ONE until you're feeding Purina ONE exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets. No Supplements Necessary: Purina ONE provides 100% complete and balanced nutrition. There is no need to add vitamins, minerals or other supplements, unless specifically directed by a veterinarian. Fresh Water, Proper Diet & Veterinary Care: Be sure to provide fresh water in a clean container for your dog daily. Proper diet, exercise and veterinary care are the best ways to keep your dog healthy. If your dog hasn't had a check-up in the past year, please make an appointment today. Store in a cool, dry place.

My pup seems to think this food is delicious. I asked her for a more detailed review, but she simply cocked her head slightly to the right before resuming to bury her face in the bowl and continue about her day. I can only assume her desire for it by the fact that she continues to eat it, but I'm fairly certain she has no taste buds to speak of judging by the other things she chooses to eat.

I refuse to try it myself, because I am not a dog. If I were, I might like it - I guess we'll never know.

This may not be the best food available, however, it's made in this country, has never been recalled, does not have colors or chemicals AND meat is the first ingredient. It's a great value especially if you have more than one dog.

My dog loves this food. We were getting him some really high-end grain free stuff but it costs a fortune so went looking for something a little more reasonable but with a half-decent ingredient list. This stuff lists turkey as the primary ingredient and while corn meal is also high on the list, it is not first and at 30% protein, it has a better macronutrient profile than most dry dog foods. In short, seems to be the best compromise between cost, taste and quality.

I started feeding both of my dogs Purina One SmartBlend Lamb & Rice about two months ago, and the last two or three weeks they have both been vomiting almost all of their food, undigested, about 8-12 hours after eating. I looked for many causes, thinking especially that they were eating too fast, and tried different feeding methods to help slow them down, but it only got worse. My Cavalier was vomiting violently all day yesterday and last night my lab started vomiting blood. We are now sure it was the food, and when I did some research last night, I found out Purina has pending lawsuits from a fairly large group of consumers who claim their dogs were poisoned by the food and had all the same symptoms my dogs are having. This morning I fed both dogs small amounts of a new food and a little more of the new food this afternoon, and for the first time in weeks they've both held everything down and both already look and seem a lot better. I just hope we stopped feeding them the Purina in time and there are no long term health issues.
What makes me the most upset is when I contacted Purina over the phone, they denied any issues with their products, and removed my post describing my experience from their Facebook page because it did "not adhere to community standards." In the last few months there are over 1000 incidents listed on Consumer Affairs site, almost identical to my experience, some worse, yet Purina stands by the safety of their products and feels these reports are all false and misleading allegations. I am not one to ever complain to a corporation - usually if I'm unhappy with a product I just throw it away and move on - but this is extremely frightening and Purina needs to take this seriously.

Buying pet food can and is a tricky proposition. This review is about dog food, Purina One, Smartblend, to be specific. You can spend hours; no, days actually, researching various dog foods on line and via various publications. Name a brand and you will find many who will defend it right down to the matt. On the other hand, the same brand will have its distracters; folks who absolutely hate the stuff. If you care about your dog (and you really should not have a dog if you don't care about it or them), then you need to do your research and do what you feel is best for your animal. Now let me make one statement before I write the review...it is a rather important statement:

If you dog gets sick on any given dog food, then for goodness sakes throw the stuff out, stop feeding your dog that food, and try something different!

We have, at this time, four dogs. They range from 9 pounds to 35 pounds and from two years old to 14 years old. My wife and I have had dogs all of our lives; cats too, but we are primarily dog people. We have been using Purina products for years and have been quite happy with the results. We have healthy dogs and we go to great lengths to keep them that way.

At present, and for the past four or five years, we have been using Purina ONE, Smartblend - Lamb & Rice Formula. We have had great results with it. There has been no weigh loss nor any weight gains - as long as we keep them on this stuff. The only problems we do have is that our dogs absolutely LOVE people food and they are garbage guts when it comes to finding delicious "things" in the yard and in the woods. People food and "things" usually bring on a case of diarrhea or in some cases, vomiting.

I adopted a dog from a shelter and this is what came free with adoption. I first thought about switching to another food, but I checked with my vet first. When it comes to dog food review it is all personal opinion so really they mean nothing. Also, researching on the internet of what food to give your dog is a pain, because it is so subjective. I believe Purina One is a better dog food than some of the other Purina products so I stuck with it. Words of warning: If you try a lot of dog foods your dog can become "sensitized" to a lot of food additives causing "allergies." This happens a lot with food dyes. Stick with one brand and one type...I'm sure dogs don't get bored with food like humans.
