This is a brilliant purchase! I am typing this review from my iPad using this keyboard right now and it is blowing me away with how well it is typing. It keeps up well, the keys only take a light pressure to operate and there is a texture to the keys so they are not slick (what is with this style of everyone wanting slick electronics these days anyways?). The ONLY issue I have, and the only thing that is keeping me from posting that fifth star, is that this device requires batteries and is not rechargeable. Make it rechargeable and I'm sold!!

If you've ever had to type a long document or email on a smartphone or small tablet's virtual keyboard, you'll appreciate having a real keyboard to use. I've used several Bluetooth keyboards, and while they all worked well for the basic typing functions, the V7 keyboard has features that none of the others had. It's a small keyboard - 11¼"x4¾", which is just slightly bigger than the AmazonBasics keyboard for Android - but the keys are 0.6" square, which is exactly the same size as the keys on my HP laptop.

The keyboard paired easily with my Moto X Android phone as device "Bluetooth 3.0 Keyboard" after I typed in a 6-digit pairing code as directed. Now here's what sets the V7 keyboard apart from other Bluetooth keyboards: After pairing, you can use keyboard shortcuts for the operating system of your phone or tablet, choosing either Android, iOS, or Windows. The user guide includes a list of the shortcuts for each of these operating systems. (And thank you for a well written guide with large print that I didn't have to read with a magnifying glass.) In addition to the OS-specific keyboard shortcuts, the keyboard has special keys that take you directly to the internet or to check your email, plus other functions like play/pause and volume control if you're playing music.

The keys give a soft but noticeable tactile response, so there's no doubt that you've pressed a key. The "F" and "J" keys have the little raised bars that touch typists use to position their index fingers, just as a regular keyboard has. For non-touch typists like myself, the characters on the keys are large enough and have excellent contrast so they're easy to read.

For people who have trouble adjusting to a smaller Bluetooth keyboard specifically designed for a tablet, this V7 version offer relief as long as they don't mind noisy keys. The touch screen of an iPad is too awkward to use for word processing or even extensive email, and that's where a Bluetooth keyboard is a must. This particular one does not attach to the tablet or phone, thus becoming a universal accessory for whatever Bluetooth device you want to pair it with.

The keyboard lifts about 1/2" in the back, angling the keyboard for a more comfortable typing experience than a totally flat one would have. Because the keyboard is full-size (it's the same size as the Bluetooth keyboard that came with my iMac), the many function keys do not detract from the overall usefulness of the keyboard as many mini-keyboards can. The shift keys are of equal size, again something that is often lost on smaller boards. The thing I just cannot get past, however, is the feel and sound of the keyboard. The keys feel kinda wobbly, without the firm resistance I like. And while I can accept noisy, plastic-y keys on my desktop computer, it is annoying with my iPad, especially since I tend to use that more in public spaces. I realize that this is a matter of preference since my husband loves that feel and clackety sound with his keyboards, having gotten used to Microsoft versions. I, on the other hand, hear and feel "cheap." I think a lot depends on what you're used to.

The keyboard takes two AAA batteries (not included), a change from many portable Bluetooth keyboards that charge using microUSB cables. In this regard, the V7 keyboard is more like a traditional wireless keyboard that is used with a desktop.Read more ›
