Okay, here is an honest gritty review that breaks down all of the features of the product. I do not work for Fishunter, I am just a normal user.

To start off with, a lot of the complaints I have seen have been a bit silly, or lacking in logic. This is a $150 fish finder, so please compare it alongside other $150 products. I am going to address some of the complaints other reviewers have posted.

1) Bluetooth doesn't work. Please keep in mind that this device relies on the bluetooth chip in your portable device just as much as it relies on it's own bluetooth chip. If you are having trouble connecting to it via bluetooth it may be your mobile device. They have also added an option to transmit through wifi, so try that on the app as well. Bluetooth in any device also performs poorly when temperatures drop below zero. If you are in extremely cold temperatures while ice fishing, try wifi, or invest in a heater. You had $150 for a fish finder, you can save up $50 for a propane heater. This isn't a fault in the product, bluetooth has limits. This device relying on bluetooth can be considered a pro and a con, it just goes with the territory of this portable fish finder.

2) Battery doesn't last long. The fish hunter's battery will last 6-8 hours depending on use. Almost every fish finder on the market requires you to buy a battery in addition to the finder. The fact it includes a built in 6-8 hour battery life is a blessing. If you want additional life, go find a portable charging pack for both your phone and this finder. At the time of this review you can pick up a 13,000 mAH portable charger for $25, where as fish finder batteries are about $40.

3) Doesn't pick up fish. The fishhunter doesn't work well in lower depths of water.

First off, I purchased the item from the FishHunter website because it had a sale on it there.

Now to the review. I purchased this with the hopes I can use it out of my boat, but otherwise only for ice fishing. I took it out today for the first time...in some beautiful -5 degree North Dakota weather. After fully charging it for the first time the night before, the darn thing wouldn't turn on the first couple times I put it in the hole, it just sat there and floated like some worthless bobber. In anticipation of my purchase, I had bought one of those extra battery packs for my phone and the Fish Hunter just in case I needed it. So what I did was remount the Fish Hunter to the charger and attached it to the battery bank, and it began to charge. I disconnected it, put it in the hole, and then it connected to my phone (Motorola Droid Razr M) for the first time. Guess it needed a jump start. I immediately switched the view of my phone to show the half/half flasher and raw data screen, which is really neat, and yes, you can see your jig all the way to the bottom, even a micro jig. I set the Fish Hunter to beep whenever something foreign entered the screen (which gets really annoying if you fish on any form of running water like I do, because the ice jig/lure tends to exit/reenter the screen all the time, leading to a lot of beeping) which did eventually let me know about some perch. Just like a traditional flasher I was able to watch the perch follow my jig up and prepare myself for the hits, allow the screens are a bit slow and delayed due to the bluetooth connectivity.

Loving this!

I'm not really a serious fisherman so I don't have a big fishing boat or anything, but I love throwing a line in the water up at the family cottage. This was the perfect alternative to one of those expensive fish finders mounted to the hull of a boat. It is compact so it fits in the tackle box and it makes fishing so much more interesting and enjoyable. I can actually see where the fish are or aren't (as is the case off the end of our dock - glad I now know all those years of fruitless casting were a bit of waste).

After reading the other reviews here I don't understand what they are talking about. Downloading and installing the app was easy and the device connected right away. I'm not sure if those people had an early version or something, I know these app companies are always improving, but mine works great. No issues.

Works great for ice fishing. I've used it a few times now in Minnesota. One time in sub zero temps, the other couple times in 20 degree temperatures. Both times it worked great. I was worried about interference from the floating ice around the hole, since unlike a traditional flasher which has a sensor that stays a couple feet below the ice (and below the floating ice chunks around the surface), this one just floats on top. But I must say, it was not an issue. I was able to determine the depth almost instantly. In flasher mode- which is a setting made specifically for ice fishing, I could easily follow my minnow and jig down to where I was seeing fish. Usually when you get about 5 feet from the fish you can see them come up to inspect your bait. I was fishing in about 35 feet of water. I had the sensitivity and gain turned up almost all the way. I think if you have them turned down the battery will last longer. As it was after about 4.5 hours, the battery was down to 10%. It does come with a car/home outlet, so you can charge it on the fly. I also have a cheap external battery charger for my phone, since the phone battery seems to drain faster than the fish hunter- as I would expect since it is running an app and connected to Bluetooth constantly. You can easily turn off the fish hunter from the app, even if it is still in the water, to conserve battery. One last thing: The FishHunter sonar beam shoots down into the water at a 16 degree angle, which is not a super wide angle, so it definitely works better in deeper depths. I know this is true of most fish finders and is required to make them accurate at deeper depths, but it would be nice to have the option to widen the beam for shallow depths.
