Great melodies. Great instrumentation and arrangement. How do you do it? It always floors me when someone writes a song or melody that is so original yet has an arresting familiarity. That is one of the qualities of a popular hit, or at least it used to be. Ms. Detor delivers value with this album, again, as she has done routinely with her now abundant body of work. Flat Earth Diary is mostly a collection of beautiful lullabies along with pieces that are spirited and joyful. Lyrics are thoughtful poetry sung with a beautiful wistful voice, reminiscent of Judy Collins but totally Krista's own style. If you think it's all been done, and nothing new- think again.
The work of great song writers is infectious and inspires music in others and Detor does that here. She is a treasure and I hope she can keep going back to her well and drawing out more of her gorgeous compositions. (More, they always want more). But in a world of philistines, who keep buoying up the likes of the current crop of pop stars, Detor and others who have stunning talent are somewhat ignored by the common herd. Tragic.

"Detor at Her Best" -- Krista Detor is *always* at her best. Her voice and poetry haunt the imagination long after the music itself has ended. Many people, when they think of folk music, imagine the "mockumentary" "A Mighty Wind." People who love folk music actually love that film, but that is because they know how the genre has gone so far beyond its own stereotypes. Detor's work simply defies description.

A fabulous album. Beautiful musicianship and lyrics.
Why, oh why, do such incredibly talented musicians like Krista Detor spend their lives in relative obscurity, while American Idol makes household names out of no-talent yahoos? It's a mystery to me.
Buy the album, and catch her live like I did at the Trinity House in Livonia.
You can thank me later.

Here's a woman approaching 50 that can put together a great cd. As for a live performance her shows are small and the sound is poor.. She rarely leaves Indiana, and a U.S tour for her consists of her home state and Ohio, and one or two others. If you follow her on twitter or facebook you will quickly see that she may jump over to Ireland and fill a pub of 50 people. That is her world tour. She can talk big because her cd's are actually some of the best in the music world today. Get a manager, and step beyond the bland state of Indiana, and you might be heard!!
