3M VHB Heavy Duty Mounting Tape 5952 is a flexible, heavy duty mounting tape strong enough to replace screws, rivets and studs and permanently adhere one material to another while spreading the stress load across the entire length of the joint. Once materials are joined with 3M VHB Tape, a virtually indestructible weld is created.
The Better Way to Bond
3M VHB tape combines the most conformable acrylic foam with modified acrylic adhesive. Conformable means the tape fits into grooves, around corners and through curves while offering a durable bond stronger than mechanical fasteners. The result is an extraordinarily strong tape that holds fast to the widest range of materials. Glass, metal, MSE plastics such as rigid PVC, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, and polystyrene, as well as most powder-coated paints, painted or sealed wood and concrete are among the substrates to which VHB tape bonds. 3M VHB Tape enhances the appearance of finished goods by eliminating rivets and screws while providing immediate handling strength. In most cases, fastening with VHB tape is a quicker process than drilling, fastening, or cleaning liquid adhesive run-off. VHB tape can be used indoors or outdoors in a variety of applications, including permanent sign and panel mounting, general industrial, maintenance, and dozens of DIY projects. The tape’s closed-cell foam core and modified adhesive effectively seal out moisture.
Can Tape Really Replace Mechanical Fasteners?
Yes! High-strength bonding tape is a proven alternative to screws, rivets, welds and other forms of mechanical fasteners. Skyscrapers, cell phones, electronic highway signs, refrigerators, marine electronics, architectural windows, recreational vehicles and trailers all rely on specialty bonding tape for one or more steps in the assembly, mounting, fastening, and sealing process. Been using this product for over a year...no less than 5 rolls.
These new "Converted by Tapecase" rolls are garbage.
They have been re-spooled and poorly at that. Re-rolled misaligned and crooked on the spool and the exposed ends are very sticky and are bench-top detritus magnets. The tape itself is still branded with the original red 3M VHB backing but the tape itself has lost some "stick" in the process. Back to the Home Depot 'heavy duty mounting tape' for half the price.
See my photos of just how sticky the roll edges are and the residue left behind when I had to TEAR the paper off after the photo.
