I've had the backpack for about 2-3 weeks now and am having to return it:
The laptop sleeve is a great idea but the bag itself is not working out for college use.

Pros:
1. Great laptop sleeve! Best I've seen in a backpack. It's lined in a very soft, stitched/padded, microfiber-type material and the opening is on the righthand side when wearing it (so it's easy to pull out laptop without removing entire backpack).
Also, there's "buffer" space between the bottom of the bag and the laptop sleeve.
2. Lightweight
3. Chest straps are removable (so they don't hang there all the time)
4. Pretty comfortable
5. Side handle near the laptop sleeve comes in... handy

Cons:
1. Thin material (but that's probably why it's lightweight too. E.G. Corners and edges of books sticking through bottom of bag)
2. Questionable quality (stitches are coming apart in a few places already)
3. No place for umbrella or water bottle
4. Power adapter compartment doesn't work well for Apple chargers, though it would be good for PC ones
5. I have no idea why it comes with a metal bottle opener permanently attached to the shoulder strap... I'm assuming it's a bottle opener but either way, it makes some noise when setting it down, especially on a metal desk leg

Ultimately, I'm returning it because it's too small and I doubt it would hold up.
With one book, folder, notebook and Macbook Air with charger (with a few other small things), I can barely fit a 27oz water bottle inside main compartment (where I definitely wouldn't want it to leak) and I can't fit an umbrella ANYWHERE. There is nowhere to stow it on the outside of the bag.

I owned and used a previous version of the Q backpack for several years and over time saw that many improvements could be made to the bag. The 2014 version has ALL of these improvements.

1. The most serious and popular complaint was with the laptop compartment, which was not suspended. If you dropped your bag or put it down hard enough you could hear your expensive electronics hit the ground. Now the compartment is partially suspended, protecting your valuables. The zip is also longer and more accessible and the lining is better.

2. In the previous version of the bag there was an awkward mesh zippy pocket in the main compartment. If you put anything in it binders and large books wouldn't lay flat. The mesh zippy pocket is gone and now everything lays flat. There's now a "hidden" sort of pocket for your phone or small valuables that hangs into the main compartment (not in the way). I love it and use it for my work keys but I wish I could fit my phone in it (galaxy note 3). Phablet users get no love!

3. The flap compartment definitely seems roomier even though the bags are the same size and the organization is definitely better. They got rid of the key strap, which I am convinced NOBODY uses, and once again the lining seems a lot more durable than the previous version.

4. The front zip is much better now. In the previous bag no matter what you put in the front zip pocket it always ended up at the bottom of the pocket. In the 2014 version there is now a mesh "sling" sort of area at the top of the pocket. I keep a small notebook in the bottom and my headphones in the mesh sling. No more clumping!

5. On the previous bag the brick charger pocket had a wraparound zip that was really awkward and not easy to use.

I bought this backpack after some consideration, and I have to say that it's good - but it could be better. It's definitely a briefcase replacement rather than a carryall. I definitely think it's worth the $70 I paid for it, but I would question whether or not to pay more depending on what I needed.

PROS:
-The sleek "brick" design makes it easy to sling on and off. Straps are really solid and supportive, and you have the option to fasten them across your chest which is great (although I don't use that option)
-The material is sturdy, and it's lined and waterproof. I've worn it through snow without my laptop getting even remotely damp.
-It's got a ton of pockets - tbh, I don't even use them all, but someone else might. A few friends are really enamored of the media pocket up top, although I carry a purse so that's less of a deciding factor for me.

CONS:
-The bag is very narrow. Its dimensions make it perfect for books, a laptop, and other items that comfortably lie flat. It isn't as great with wider or bulkier items. For example, I don't think you could fit a pair of gym sneakers in here without busting the seams. The benefit to this structure is that whatever you slide in there doesn't tend to move around a lot: ie, your books and papers aren't going to slide down and get squished.
-It's not obnoxious-looking, but it's definitely not as stylish or beautiful as other backpacks (those other backpacks are usually a lot more expensive, though)
-For me, this is the biggest flaw: the laptop pocket doesn't unzip all the way. It's hard to explain this, although I've tried to include a picture in which you can see me holding the laptop pocket open (and in which you can see that the zipper doesn't unzip all the way across the top of the bag).
