Before these, I used the regular aquila nyglut strings. The super nygluts are a noticeable improvement. My other strings had a plasticky twang to them while the super nygluts eliminate that giving a more pure sound. Mind you, many reviews of this can be misleading. The strings do not feel rubbery or sticky. They feel like nylon so if you're looking for something that provides a more sticky/rubbery feel then go for something else.

Have used these strings before, they made my Makala concert ukulele sound much better. These were for a Caramel solid spruce top concert uke, it was loud and bright already (which is what I wanted), don't know what kind of strings came with it but they couldn't hold a tuning well; the Aquilas kept the brightness and volume but added some bass and a fistful of mids, a much more balanced and dynamic tone. I was hesitant to take off the perfectly good supplied strings as they did sound and play very nicely; it was the tuning issues that made me do it. The Aquilas hold their tuning well, but don't believe the quasi-English on the package claiming that they do it within seconds (unless you count out 2+ weeks in seconds, about 1.2 million then). As for claims that the extra tension and thickness of these strings can hurt your fingers....... aww, c'mon. Yes, they are thicker with more tension (which is how they achieve their great sound), but I notice no bloody stumps where my fingers used to be; if I hadn't read a review about this I probably would have never noticed any difference (never crossed my mind with the Makala). If you want to punch up your ukulele's sound these are great, just have to be patient and let them break-in when they feel like it.

Okay, perhaps it could also be a case of forgetting to change out the strings for maybe two years on my concert mahogany a/e ukulele, which had Aquia Nygut strings already, but I decided to change strings after having changed the strings on my tenor uke to the new Aquia Super Nygut strings, which really sounded much better. Again, the difference is the strings feel slightly heavier and have a bit more tension (which is great except when I get carried away strumming fast and heavy because these strings can really be hard on your fingers - like shredding skin and nails -- just don't get strum crazy!). But the tone and volume with these strings is really nice (realistically, it won't make an expensive uke or tenor size kind of difference but every little bit helps). Plus it's not like these strings cost way more than the regular Aquia Nylgut strings. It's just nice to have a bit louder sound coming from my concert uke, which by the way, I tune this uke to A-D-F#-B instead of G-C-E-A for a brighter, ringing tone.
