I have loved every album from Keith and Kristyn Getty. This one is no exception. This one feels a little more upbeat and Irish, which I like. Many of their songs are very heavy and rich, and this album lightens it up a little, at least musically. It's a fun and very worshipful album. To top it off, Alison Krauss joins Kristyn Getty on "In Christ Alone". It doesn't get much better, in my opinion!
This is another wonderful, solidly theological, beautiful Irish offering of hymns by the Gettys.

Prime Cuts: Before You Kneel (A Worker's Prayer), The Perfect Wisdom of Our God, My Heart is filled with Thankfulness

If there is an endearing message that pulsates right through Keith and Kristyn Getty's "Hymns for the Christian Life," it is that work cannot be taken out of the church and vice versa. In our compartmentalized world where worship spirals only within the confines of the church's walls, the Gettys have rightly challenged us that the presence of God should never be domesticated. Whether it is in our work, our parental care of our children, our financial dealings, or our involvements with our community, Jesus and His Gospel need to be at the cynosure. If the presence of God is not at the center of our being, then it is nowhere at all. And such a salient truth is conveyed through these 12 hymns, ten of which were never released before with the inclusion of the old favorite "Nothing But the Blood" and a new take of the Gettys' signature tune "In Christ Alone." However, lest the word "hymn" sends tremors of datedness and boringness down our spines, this album is not the average grandmother's hymn book. Rather, there are two defining characteristics to the hymns of the Gettys: first, lyrically they try to avoid the trite and pleonastic repetitions of many modern worship songs. Instead their songs are packed with meaty theological truths unravelled with a palatable perspicuity that even a baby Christian would have no problem grasping. Second, rather than mimicking the monomania of modern secular music where beats and youthfulness take the front seat beautifully crafted melodies that transcend trends and generations are what we find here.Read more ›

I really like this cd, though their first release will always be my favorite. This one is more lively, more Irish, with a definite bluegrass feel. I absolutely love Alison Krauss' voice, so combined with Kristyn on the greatest Getty song ever, I know which song is my favorite on the cd. Keep them coming, Keith and Kristyn!

We have several of their cds and really love this one as well. Enjoy the more Irish flavor on several tracks and the beauty of deep Christian theology. Love almost every track except Kyrie Laison (or whatever it's called) is rather repetitive and annoying, but is made up for by how great the first track Christ is Risen (He is Risen Indeed) is, it gives me chills every time. Every time I get in the car my almost 4 year old and 2 1/2 yr old beg for "Getty's Getty's!!" I love instilling in our children a love of great Christian music like theirs it is lightyears better than the local "family friendly" radio station's playlist.

Keith & Kristyn are called modern day hymn writers, but these are not boring stoic hymns. The words are rock solid and speak to the soul. The Irish lilt of Kristyn's voice and the exuberance of the instrumentalists are uplifting. I haven't heard anything yet I haven't liked from them! One of my favorite treats is to hear them in person! It's a worship experience that is unsurpassed!
