I try never to rate something 5 stars - it tends to suggest the reviewer was blinded by the product and wrote the review in the honeymoon period. But having played the game through once to the end, I'm totally prepared to give this a 5 star review.
Why?
It's the best Alien game to date. It's better in every way than all it's predecessors because it works. It writes an interim story between the original Alien movie and Aliens, where you get to play Ripley's daughter. It does so in such a way that you do feel like you're playing inside the original movie. A lot of reviews of games tend to fall back on that old chestnut but this time I think it's true to say - this is the closest you could get to being in the universe that Alien created.
The storyline is simple enough - travel to an outpost for The Company (Weyland Yutani) to recover the Nostromo flight data recorded. But being set in the Alien universe, you know the story isn't really that simple. There's no point in ruining all the surprises in a review, so you'll have to play it to find all the brilliant set pieces.
Where this game really shines is in the audio design, the graphics design and the AI.
The audio design is hands-down one of the best pieces of videogame work I've ever heard. Truly cinematic, properly engaging, and best listened to on a 5.1 surround system (or more - if you have a full DTS system, go for it!). Because a vast part of the game involves not being found or attacked, there's a lot of sneaking and hiding that goes on, so sound becomes a key component that you'll use to locate other entities in the game.

I must admit; it was hard at first to look forward to another Alien game after last year's appalling "Colonial Marines" but Creative Assembly passes with flying colours! They clearly put time and attention into this game and it shows. From the attention to detail in the environments to the fantastic lighting and audio. Resisting the urge to create a fashionable, contemporary vision of the future, Creative Assembly have instead looked to the production design of the original film for inspiration. Say hello to big bulky computers with VHS quality resolutions.

Set some 15 years after the events of Ridley Scott's original Alien film, Isolation has you playing as Amanda Ripley the daughter of Ellen. Your an engineer working for the mega-corporation Weyland-Yutani and is given an opportunity to travel to the space station named Sevastopol when she learns that the flight recorder for her mother's lost ship, the Nostromo, is being held there--a potential clue to her whereabouts. However when arriving on the Sevastopol you quickly realise something is horribly wrong. Creative Assembly have mastered the atmosphere here. You immediately feel vulnerable upon arriving on the station and get the feeling that there is danger around the corner. You will spend most of your time traversing the ship as quietly as possible using your wits simply trying to survive. Gameplay is a mixture of hiding, sneaking, hacking past your enemies; humans, synthetics and the Xenomorph, the worst of all. Don't rely solely on The weapons in Isolation because in true survival horror fashion they're slow and inaccurate and ammo is really sparse. More than that, they're worse than useless in most situations.

However, some flat voice acting and poorly developed characters are the main disappointments here.

I saw ALIEN on cable TV back in 1980. I was only 6, but I loved it. The Xenomorph was one of my favorite monsters, right next to Godzilla during that time. I wasn't old enough to really understand what was happening in the movie, but as I grew older, I appreciated it more and more.

It's been a long time coming, but now we have an ALIEN game worth playing. It captures the essence of Ridley Scott's movie perfectly. The scenes, the music, the ALIEN. It was a huge flashback to my youth and I was ready to put myself in the driver's seat of terror.

I'm not going to go into details, as there are plenty of sites that describe the Sevastopol in depth and the background story. Instead, I'm just going to convey my own first thoughts and feelings towards this game.

I have followed this game since word popped back when Aliens: Colonial Marines came out. I, like much of you, have seen countless videos of others playing survival mode and the countless times the ALIEN plants that kiss through their skull. So, when I played this on my own XBOX for the first time, I was a little worried that this game wouldn't terrify me since I knew what was coming.

Boy, was I wrong.

I played the survival mission first, just to see what dying is like. Just like the many videos, as soon as I opened the door in the safe room, the ALIEN was right there. I could hear his booming footsteps through my headsets. I crouched down behind some barrels, almost giggling from the excitement that I'm actually doing this instead of watching someone doing it. I stand up, the ALIEN sees me and screams as I cover it in flames. The ALIEN retreats immediately, climbing up into the vents. I turn to climb inside a locker and wait.
