Blocking can be done in a few ways. I would have assumed that these mats would support all of those, since the product description does not specify. I called KnitPicks, and the representative said that these are NOT SUITABLE FOR STEAM BLOCKING! :(
They do a nice wet block. I've used them and they work well, come apart and together easily, and stay in place. Accept pins well. They do show small pinholes from the T pins and fork pins, and so I assume that eventually they will have too many holes in them to be useful.
Pins not included.
Not thick enough to accept the entire pin length.
I like these okay, but if I had to do it again, I'd probably get some mats that would work for steam block, too.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but these mats don't have any lines on them. I was able to buy some foam exercise mats in the toy department that were much more durable and far less expensive.

This is my second set of mats. If you knit shawls, scarfs or any large item I would suggest getting two sets. It will give you the ability to really block out lace and intricate patterns to show the details of your work.

I dunno much about knitting, but my wife uses this constantly. I think it's used in the last step to stretch out the finished product. She has mentioned that the tiles are very light, but stay locked very well as long as you don't try and pick it up, and she likes that the she only uses the number of tiles she needs and can have various shapes.

These are great. I wish I had them years ago. They can be assembled into odd shapes as you need them. I used T-Pins and they went in easily. The only thing I was disappointed was that the waffle pattern is not in straight lines. That would have been a nice feature. Must use yardstick for accuracy. They are thick and light and pack back into the cardboard box for storage. I think these will be good for wet block only since they look like they are made of foam material. I would be worried about steam/heat.

This is my second set of blocking boards, needed more for bigger projects. Over all they work great, however the notches in the second set are cut opposite from the first set I have, so I have to use one set upside down to use them together.

I had been looking for blocking mats for a while and settle on these. I really didn't care if the blocks were all white or different colors, I was looking for function and easy storage. They are thick enough that I've not had the T-pins penetrate all the way through, which I had noted on some of the reviews I read for other brands.
I had done a lot of comparison shopping, both on line and in yarn stores and found these were the best price. They fit nicely together when needing a larger foundation for blocking a project. I do wish they had measuring grid marks though, inches preferably. That would have earned these 5 stars!
