I love music & good audio components.
I hate the clutter that wires create.
My dilemma has always been --- The Trade Off.
I suppose a purist audiophile would never consider the loss of sound fidelity a worthwhile trade-off for the aesthetics & convenience of wireless speakers.
I suppose a purist audiophile would cringe at the very idea of purchasing/playing iTunes quality (128-256 kbps) compressed bit rate songs via their top shelf audiophile sound system.
I wish I had the patience, commitment & wallet for such high demands.
I am not a purist.
However, for the past few years my desire has been to find a wireless speaker solution that doesn't require me to pretend that compressed iTunes tracks played through mediocre bluetooth speakers doesn't bother me.
I've owned wireless speakers from:
Klipsh
Logitech
Sound Matters
Bose
Edifier Spinnaker
---
While they all have their strengths & are considerably better sounding than most of the competition flooding the wireless market...
They all have major weaknesses that left me wishing/wanting more.
I kinda' feel like an unpaid Beta tester for all things wireless.

Sorry it took so long but here's my .02 cents on the JBL Authentics L16:
I threw in a rating scale 1-10 (10= perfect) just b'cuz

Appearance:
9= Outstanding retro design borrowed from JBL's famous L100 studio monitor(1960-1970's).
The build quality & attention to detail are impeccable.
My only disappointment- JBL recently used to offer speaker grill options in a few amazing retro colors.
I contacted JBL to inquire & was informed this option has been discontinued.
They were kind enough to provide some 3rd party vendors that might carry them but...

I love it. I was sold on the aesthetics and the phono input. I was originally going to purchase a tube amp for my record player, but the cost and additional setup, were a little more than I wanted to invest. The sound from the phono is good, not as great when compared to a vintage analog tube receiver, but with some adjustments from the app, the sound is pleasing to the ears.

The setup - Bluetooth, Airplay, Phone, Line-in were easy. The only issues I had were with the Wifi and DNLA the settings would drop and it took 3 attempts to get them set - but all my tablets, phones and computers are Mac, so this may have been the issue.

The sound from streaming music is great - you just have to place the system in a good spot. The sound carries and gets better the further you are from the source.

A big plus is the ease of use for those in the house that are challenged by technology - there have been no complaints so far. Which is a change from the multiple component system running the home theater.

The L16 is quality... the build and the sound is great for a wireless solution. Yes it's a little expensive, but this thing will last and it looks and sounds great.

UPDATE 9/5/2015: After about a month of working with technical support, it was determined that in order for DLNA and Spotify Connect to work in conjunction with eachother on my unit, I needed to factory reset, install an intermediate firmware update (this was emailed to me/not available on the site or discussed in the manual), and THEN install the Spotify Firmware update. After following the above steps, everything began working spectacularly. I'd once again recommend this product, but shaved a star off my initial rating because I believe many people would give up on the L16 before finding this kind of solution.

UPDATE 8/31/2015: The Spotify Connect firmware upgrade has left this device incapable of connecting to DLNA. My choices are to do a factory reset and lose Spotify Connect, or live without DLNA and lose a substantial amount of audio quality. I have been working with JBL customer support for over a month to no avail. Consider me truly disappointed. My recommendation is withdrawn. Unfortunately I cannot return this device despite their false advertisement.

Let me first say that my true "audiophile" setup exists in a different room from where I placed the Authentics L16. I purchased this as a way to easily play high quality music in my living room. I've been very impressed with its performance, and often wind down after work using it to play jazz or folk, both of which it handles very well. The difference in sound quality between bluetooth and DLNA is surprising. I've often entertained guests with it - all of whom have left envious of the clarity and life it breathes into music. Is this a true audiophile product? No. Does it produce exceptional clarity and bass when compared against the wireless competetion? Absolutely.

Updates at the bottom. I'm using this speaker mainly for its Apple AirPlay abilities. So far, so good: the sound is *frighteningly* loud, lively, and clean. In my 12'x20' bedroom with cathedral ceilings I only need to turn the volume up to 30-50% of maximum to *absolutely shake* the room. I can't imagine it wanting to turn it up to even 2/3 volume. With a little tweaking on the JBL app, the treble and mid-range will sparkle. (Out of the box they are a bit flat.)

Set-up was fairly easy. One tip I found is that this speaker won't recognize 5GHz wireless networks. I use an Apple Time Capsule 802.11ac base station and I have it broadcast separate network names for 5GHz (faster transmissions) and 2.4GHz (stronger, longer-range signal). The JBL can only identify and connect to the 2.4GHz band, which is fine, because 2.4GHz travels better through walls and has better range and more than enough speed for AirPlay and Internet streaming. Of course, my iPhone 6 and MacBook Pro can connect to the 5GHz band while the JBL connects to the 2.4GHz band and there's no issues with the devices communicating through the Time Capsule on different bands. I just wanted to point this out so that anyone trying to make the speaker connect to a 5GHz network knows not to bother trying... 2.4GHz only.

I ordered this as an open-box deal on Amazon to save about $200. I've only had it for a night so will update this review if my opinion changes over time. So far the only negatives I can point out are:

1. The incremental volume steps are bit too steep. In other words, turning up the speaker's volume just one 'notch' constitutes a significant leap in volume that feels like it ought to be 2-3 notches.
