Great sound quality, volume and battery life. I ran this speaker at 80+% volume for over 6 hours at the beach yesterday and the battery meter showed it was still well above 50%.

I didn't need the outdoor mode, but it appears that it reduces the low frequency to enable higher decibel levels.

Construction of the speaker seems quite durable, and there's a handy strap that comes with it to latch it onto things.

Edit/Update: After using this speaker for a few months, the power button stopped working. I just sent it in for a warranty claim and Braven is replacing my speaker with a new one. Hopefully the power button is not a faulty component that I'll have to deal with again later.

Aside from the above issue, I'm still quite pleased with the speaker's sound quality, overall volume and rugged design.

I've owned speaker for ~1.5 days as of 10/22.

I was planning to write only a few lines, but the more I thought about the speaker, the more I realized I liked it. I wasn't even looking for speakers. I happened to be in a retail store and somehow subject of speakers came up and I was offered a terrific deal so I bought both BRV-1 & BRV-X ( this speaker ).

I took the BRV-1 back because it wasn't much louder than some of the other much smaller speakers I have, ie JBL Clip. BRV-1 is definitely more rugged, but wasn't much louder and definitely less portable. JBL Clip fits in my shirt pocket.

Same applies to the BRV-X. It all depends what your needs are whether or not you'll think it's great...

BRV-X is very, very nice speaker.

Portable. Long battery life. Sounds good. Speaker phone is very clear.

Can skip forwards and backwards through playlist remotely using buttons on speaker.

Can charge other devices. Documentation says it won't charge smartphone because it's only 1 amp max. I used it and it charged my smartphone which came with 2amp charger. Phone was idle at time, but it did charge it and there was still enough charge in speaker to play hours more music.

I recommend these speakers. Definitely worth considering.

As I mentioned in title, whether this speaker is perfectly matched and great for one depends on their needs.

If one doesn't ever expect to use it around water or any place where liquids could be accidentally spilled on it or where durability / ruggedness isn't needed, then you could "possibly" find better speakers for your money.

The only item at moment that prevents these speakers from being "perfect" for me is I wish they could float, that would be ideal.Read more ›

OK so I'm a Bluetooth speaker fanatic, I own the Braven BRV-X, JBL Charge, Bose Soundlink, Bose Portable (original model) I did a side by side with them all and I'll give you a quick run down. The Braven BRV-X hands down is the most durable, it's solid, tough and can take what ever you throw at it, or throw it at, it is tough, it is "water proof" and it is a little bigger than expected, it's like a big Bose soundlink, probably about twice the size & same shape. If you want a rough & tough take anywhere speaker this is definitely the one, hands down!
Sound quality is near perfect for the size comparison of speakers in it's class, it does sound really really good, clear crisp & loud with very very little almost non existent distortion. Of the speakers I listed the Bose portable (original) is the best sounding and loudest, it's also the biggest & a little out of the Bravens class. So it's close between the Bose Soundlink and Braven, but there's factors, the price of the Bose soundlink and the ruggedness of the Braven so it'll come down to what your overall use for the speaker is. The Braven is definitely better than the JBL Change and Charge Plus for sure. For toughness, ruggedness, outdoors/indoors and just a go anywhere do anything portable rough & tough Bluetooth speaker 100% the Braven with it's near Bose sound quality, for Sound quality alone with no need for ruggedness the Bose soundlink and if price is any issue both JBL's (charge & charge plus) sound amazing and are a super close second to the Bose soundlink.Read more ›

I bought the Braven BRV-X in August 2014 and it died in December. My unit suffered the same fate as another 1 star reviewer: it wouldn't turn on. It acts like it's charging but will not turn on and once the charging cable is disconnected it doesn't appear to hold a charge. I went to Braven's website hoping to obtain some type of warranty repair. It was there that I learned that while Braven has a 1 year warranty it only applies to you if you purchase your unit from one of their very limited list of "authorized retailers." Sadly, while I did purchase it through Amazon I did not buy it from the "right" person and thus there is no warranty. The long story made short is it lasted less than 4 months, is now worthless and the company won't do a thing about it. I will never buy another Braven product again. The real question is.... will you learn from my mistake?
