I'm a college student who wanted an ultrabook with 1080p display, thin, and can handle some steam gaming. This ultrabook came with a dedicated graphics card that can handle the games I play just fine (CS:GO, Dota 2). I'm the type of person who spends hours upon hours finding the perfect product for my wants and needs, I do not like dealing with returns/refunds because I want something that I know I'll love. This is definitely one of those things I love.

My personal pros/cons:
Pros:
1080p
Dedicated graphics card
Windows 8.1
Long battery life
Thin & light
Luxurious look/feel (comparable to a macbook pro)

Cons:
Touchscreen (I DO NOT LIKE GLOSSY!)
Bloatware
Webcam is awful
Wifi card has a bunch of issues
Dual core processor
Combo audio
Slow HDD

Other than that, this was everything I was looking for in a laptop.
First thing I did with this laptop was do a SSD swap with a clean Windows install. The bloatware lagged the hell out of the computer upon first start up. I highly recommend a SSD swap because the difference is night and day. While installing the windows 8.1 iso via USB, it automatically gets the key from the bios so you don't have to worry about getting the key. The webcam quality is something you'd find on a laptop 10 years ago.
The intel wifi card is known to have issues with many people, it can disconnect constantly and sometimes stay down for awhile. There are some simple work around tweaks that may fix it such as..
Disabling HT mode, transmit power highest, lowest roaming aggressiveness, rolling back the driver, wake on magic packet/pattern match both disabled.. these are a few tweaks you could try.
What fixed my problem was enabling packet coalescing.

I bought this Ultrabook from Best Buy a few weeks ago. After weeks of reading, looking and research, I finally decided to get this machine over the Asus Q550LF-BSI7T21 which was about $100 more with almost same specs. I chose this over the Asus for a few reasons. First, this laptop is a true Ultrabook. Much thinner and lighter than Asus. Second, the Asus has a DVD built in and I wanted a machine without it. Also this machine has a hybrid hard drive with 16gb dedicated for OS cache and a 1tb hard drive for everything else which the Asus lacks. All other specs are identical to the Asus. This machine has a very high quality metal build on both sides and an excellent 1080p touchscreen display. Some people have complained about the keyboard on the best buy reviews, but I have found nothing wrong with the soft backlit keyboard. I actually like the keyboard over the Asus because the Asus has white keys and the back light is not as visible in the dark as the black chicklet style keys. I have used this machine for about 3 weeks and I have to admit its one of the best laptops I have ever used. You never hear the fan and this machine never gets hot. Haswell core processor gives about 6 hours of non-stop heavy use. If you're looking for an Ultrabook at a budget price, you won't go wrong with this one. Last but not the least. Anyone looking for a touchscreen laptop, Please don't waste your money on a 1366 X 768 display. Spend an extra $150 and get a 1080p machine. The web pages load in one view and scrolling is minimum.

This is a nice unit. Does come with a bit of bloatware. I have no problem with the keyboard, which which other people seem to have issue. Does not come with MS Office. Does have an app for Office 365, for which you will have to pay a yearly fee should you buy it. Too bad MS and Goggle parted ways. MS mail takes some getting used to. Could use another USB 3 port.

DO NOT BUY! Idea Pad U530 touch 2 stars. The reason I give it a 2 is because it is a decent machine. But the hinges are CRAP. It is all over the internet. I am 17 days out of warranty and as so many other people my left hinge broke. I am lucky. I was able to catch it and my screen did not split. CUSTOMER NO SERVICE will let me pay a non refundable DIAGNOSIS fee. I have owned several lap tops, They have all lasted many years and the hard drive always broke. Never he case. So for a $1000. dollar year old computer. I am supposed to spend around 25% of original price. I will never buy another Lenovo and you should not either.

I bought Lenovo Ideapad U530 less than 2 years ago, and the hinges that connect the display broke. Apparently, this is a well known manufacturer's defect, as it's posted all over the internet.

I called to have it fixed, and they first refused because it's out of the warranty period (1 year), and then I asked for a supervisor and told him that I saw on online forums that many others getting them fixed or replaced or refunded although they were out of warranty period. The supervisor immediately said he'll expedite my request.

A few days later, I got a call from them saying they no longer manufacture the defective part and that she would refund 25% of the purchase price. I told her Lenovo offered full refund to others, and she said only if it's only 5 months out of warranty. The product came with inherent defect. They cannot sell defective products and arbitrarily select which ones to be replaced or compensated. The defective hinges are mechanical defect, so it has to do with the amount of use (before the defect surfaces). Some used the laptop more than others, so heavier use causes it to show defect earlier. Lenovo made defective products and should own up to their mistakes. This is just not acceptable.
