Edited on September 15,2015: The keyhole of the USB is totally bad. In searching for a replacement, I tried to find another brand that is more sturdy and at the same time, still has faster backup speed. I could not find such USB. So I realize that the fast backup speed of this USB is actually very good, especially considering it to be very cheap. However, I wish the Sandisk could improve its outside material to make it durable to be attached to the key chains.

I have owned this product for over a year now. I liked it very much, but when re-ordering for new one, I will not consider this. Here is the reasons:

PROS: super fast write speed and reasonable read speed: on USB 2.0 it was 20 MB/s, on USB 3.0 port, it was 40MB/s. Read Speed is around 30-40 MB for USB2.0, and 70MB/s for USB 3.0 port. This is very impressive for use as portable backup tool! Other (more expensive) brands may be only half of its speed. The encryption program that comes with the drive is also a nice plus. The price was very cheap back a year ago.

CONS: its cheep plastic design makes it easy to be worn, especially when you carry it with on key chains. The one I have been using is broken off from the key chain rings (obviously the cheap plastic body is its weakest point). I need a more durable one to carry around, and this drive does not fit my need. I should have given it a 5 star, since my flash drive still works great. I give it only 3 stars because it is not durable for carrying around.

I hope the Sandisk Engineers can read my post and improve their product. Actually I love this product.

I notice this model number... SDCZ48-032G-A46R .. is the same as the red colored one I bought on sale from Best Buy ... going to assume it's the same flash drive just a different color ;) ...

Have only had it for a day so far but works exactly as advertised (if I don't come back and update this review even years from the time that I post it then assume that it's still working great ! ) ... loving the usb 3.0 transfer speeds, I'd say it's about five times as fast as the old school usb 2.0 flash drives I was using.

Having said that , you may find that these perform better when you plug them into the usb 3.0 port on the back of your PC ... which is a general observation that applies to all usb 3.0 devices not just this one in particular.. while it is indeed a pain in the butt to reach all the way back there, I find that plugging it into the front usb 3.0 port is "hit and miss" probably because that means you're dealing with the usb 3.0 cable for your PC case that plugs into your motherboard .... with the back usb 3.0 ports on the other hand (behind the PC) you're plugging the flash drive directly into the usb 3.0 ports hardwired into the motherboard meaning you can bypass any potential poor performance related to your PC case...

This isn't to say my flash drive didn't work when plugged into the front of the case, matter of fact it was true "plug and play", Windows 8.1 immediately recognized it and had it up and running very fast ... I'm just saying sometimes it would seem to run slower than it possibly could with the front ports...

Works well, I particularly like the retractable USB connection. It make it more compact and I don't have to mess with a plastic cap that will inevitably get lost. I use it as an recovery disk for Win 8.1 on my desktop and portable.

i bought this because sandisk is rated the most reliable brand of flash drive, based on cuatomer reviews i read. i also have another smaller sandisk flash drive that has lasted well for several years, without losing data or suffering any corruption.

reviews of other brands said they could lose data unexpectedly. this particular model was the best value for the price.
