This is the first time I've ordered Faber-Castell's Whipped Spackle - I've always used modeling paste and been quite happy with it. I decided to try this because I'm always on the hunt for new products, and with Faber-Castell's home-run-hit with Gelatos has prompted me to try some of their new stuff. I've always liked Faber-Castell, but never really thought of them as being at the forefront of new art/craft trends. They've blown that incorrect ideation to smithereens with Gelatos. I can't get enough of those colorful, sumptuous sticks of goodness.
I'm glad I gave this a try. I love how lightweight it is - the container weighs next to nothing! Getting the Whipped Spackle on my palette knife was easy and took no time at all. It was a light, creamy consistency. I know that with molding paste I sometimes have to stir is all up, then do a balancing dance from the modeling paste container to my project. One tiny little misstep and BLAM! I've made a mess where I've dropped the blob of modeling paste. That wasn't my experience with this stuff - it was very easy to scoop an appropriate amount onto the palette knife (even the really skinny, plastic palette knife!) and the product is so lightweight that it didn't cause the palette knife to tilt off-balance.
I wanted to try it with a new stencil I had just received from Tim Holtz, Layered Wildflowers. The whipped consistency made it so easy to spread the spackle - and it fit into all the little stencil crevices in the most amazing way! I kept looking at all the thin little stems on the stencil, checking to see what areas I would have to go over again. Umm...NONE! This dreamy paste fully filled even the tiniest of spaces.Read more ›
