One of the best movies I've seen in awhile! Funny and charming and unique. Emma Roberts played her character well and this is one of the best roles I've seen John Cusack in awhile. I'll definitely watch it again.

Emma Roberts shines in this movie. Love the character she portrays, much different from many of her other roles. I was completely wrapped up in her eccentricities. Cusack complimented Robert's character and their interactions were hilarious and memorable. Supporting cast and story line add so much to this film, without them it would not have been nearly as good. Five big ones all the way.

Emma Roberts and John Cusack are so good and so funny in this excellent indie comedy. Evan Peters and Armando Riesco as a trans woman are also incredibly likeable and fun. I would recommend this film to anyone. It has smart writing, beautiful direction, and truly incredible acting. John Cusack is the best he's been since High Fidelity.

Definitely a B movie, but I like B movies. Very funny if you enjoy sarcasm and dark humor like I do.

This is a nice movie with interesting characters. The acting is generally good, but the story itself was a bit flat somehow. Although the main character was easy to like, her eccentricity seemed a bit overdone and phony at times. John Cusack's character lacked depth. It's like he was there just to give the girl someone to react to, but we don't know anything about him at all, really. The eventual love interest was "just there" with no real development. It's almost like you're reading the outline to a story here without being able to read the actual novel. I'd recommend this movie for a light date-night movie when you're not wanting anything too profound. I did laugh out loud a few times, so gave it an extra star for that nice sense of humor.

There once was a girl from New York
Who had never been porked
She worked at a job
Selling plastic knobs
Then she lost it all to a dork

Billy Collins said we all have about 200 bad poems in us. Middle school and high school is a good time to get it out of our system. Amy (Emma Roberts) has about 20,000 bad poems in her and thinks she is good. She majored in poetry acquiring no jobs skills, setting back her parents $90,000. Depressed she moves out and gets a job at Adult World and hangs out with a crowd of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Local poet Rat Billings (John Cusack) is her idol and she forces herself, to his dismay, into his life.

The film is another luke warm indie dying to be clever and finding an audience, which it has among would be poets. Amy's dreary life is symbolized by the dreary scenes of a depressed urban area in upstate New York. The actors saved a bad script. The use of a cross dressing gay (Armando Riesco) was funny in "The World According to Garp," but now it just shows lack of writing skill and originality which is what I really want in an indie.

I enjoyed this one! It caught me off guard and I enjoy that. The main actress was quirky and interesting and everyone else did a great job. I loved John Cusack's role. He's a fun anti-social character. I don't recall seeing him in a role like this before.
