This is a really cool product - I picked up a sample at the International Housewares show in Chicago this year. I would say that this doesn't make the traditional ice cream, but it does make a very tasty treat. It is great because you control the ingredients that go into it, and I tried with my two kids a couple variations before we got it right.

It is a great activity for the kids and kept them entertained. They sat there for almost an hour coming up with different recipes.

The best part about it is it breaks down into separate pieces that can all be cleaned individually. You won't get mildew and mold growing in all of the nooks and crannies. I wouldn't have brought it home unless I knew I could clean it. I am going to buy more!

My kids really enjoy this ice cream maker. With some half-and-half or cream (we’ve even used full fat milk), a little agave (works better for us than honey in frozen treats), and flavorings and they make whatever kind they like. It just makes about enough for one of my kids, and they pour it out into a bowl and chill it in the freezer for a half hour or so to firm it up a little more. A few tips we have learned after a few tries: We store it in the bottom of our deep freezer, so it’s as cold as we can get it. We also make sure that the ice cream ingredients are already chilled and very cold when we first put them in. I like being able to choose our own healthier ingredients and come up with our own fun flavors!

The Chill Factor Ice Cream Maker did for me what it was designed to do, make soft serve ice cream...

If... I used the Chill Factor right out of the freezer (after it had gotten a chance to become crunchy frozen)...

If... I kept my ice cream mixture cold before pouring it unto the Chill Factor Cone...

And Only if... I didn't overfill the Cone with my ice cream mixture...

After squeezing it for a good 2.5 to 3 minutes... And then... I had some of the yummiest soft serve ice cream ever!

Afterwards... Clean up was a breeze...

Only if... I cleaned the Ice Cream Cone right away...

But if... I waited until any leftovers harden, then cleaning became somewhat of a chore...

FYI:

-some of the recipes do have typos...so I invented my own using a custard base...
-use 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and not the 2 tablespoons as written!
-if or when my ice cream didn't become soft serve (or has not harden enough to my liking), I would then screw on the lid (the "top" part of the cone that's in the shape of an ice cream with its topping) and place the Cone in the freezer for an additional 20-30 minutes or so. Then, unscrew the lid and squeeze until the mixture becomes soft serve...

Seems all comments are half and half...speaking of which I noticed some folks didn't define if they used REAL/PURE vanilla extract or IMITATION as there is a definite difference. And some said they used heavy cream. I had to look up what "10% table cream" meant and it means Half and Half.
I also wondered if anyone tried it with milk as this type of "ice cream" making is similar to putting the ingredients in a can and rolling it between two kiddos. Anyway, we luckily only paid $2.00 for ours so we are in the process of getting ready to try it. Appreciated all the comments though it seems all "reviews" on any products are 50/50 so I guess it's just a "crap shoot". :) Hoping we have a positive outcome.

Get good result of ice cream! But there's a problem that clean work is not easy to be done for the cone's bad design.

First go round...chill factor 0... Decided to make vanilla... Let's just say don't use two tablespoons of vanilla extract..(I think it's a typo in the instructions). Goes together easy and the idea seems great.. The first time we used it was a flop.. I don't think with that amount of vanilla it could even become ice cream it was like a malt consistency and tasted like rum... I think maybe 1 tsp of vanilla would be appropriate... My suggestion would be to try the chocolate or strawberry options. We'll have to experiment...

Ok. I thought this was a cute item. I thought my daughter would have fun.
Don't. Buy. This. Garbage.
We decided to make vanilla. The recipe calls for 2 TABLESPOONS of vanilla extract. What? Ok, whatever. That seemed insane so I used one tablespoon instead. What little ice cream we got was so strong I swear my kid could've gotten drunk off the extract.
You're told to use the lid to measure the ingredients and then pour it into the base. The lid is round. Very round. Go ahead and try to pour heavy cream into it and have it not spill all over the countertop. It's like one of those old school weeble toys. Only this one falls over. With a flood of heavy cream. Let me tell you what a joy it is trying to clean up a puddle of that. It doesn't soak up. It's awful.
The inside ring came off halfway through mixing. We couldn't get it back on...not with all the alcoholic ice cream brewing inside, anyway. No inside ring = cone squishing and cream blowing out the top. Holy mess. Again.
The count is now Chill factor- 3. Unsuspecting customers- 0.
Once you get past all of this, you do actually have "something" that resembles soft serve ice cream, but it's inedible. At least, the vanilla is and that's if you can even get it out of the cone base.
Overall, it's one of those things that seemed like a cute idea at the time but in hindsight, I wish I never bought it. All I'm left with is a $15 hunk of plastic and silicone and a once excited child that I'm trying to explain that "we can't make ice cream right now" to.
Save your money. Take your kid to an ice cream parlor instead.
