This was my 7 year-old daughter's 2nd Doh Vinci kit. Though she really enjoyed the other, simpler kit we tried - the DohVinci Anywhere Art Studio Easel and Storage Case Set - this particular project was more frustrating than fun. If you haven't tried Doh Vinci before, the concept is this...Doh Vinci isn't traditional Play Doh that you can use and reuse. It's more like colored Crayola Model Magic. It comes in little plastic tubes and you use an applicator to squirt it out, almost like decorator frosting, to make flowers, dots, wavy lines, or whatever else you imagine. Once your artwork is complete, you let it dry and display it.

Anyway, this particular project is a 3-D cardboard door hanger shaped like a star. I helped my daughter fold and assemble the star - it was hard even for me - and then she began to create. Though she had pretty good success with her past project, which was done on a flat surface, working on all of the angled sides of the star was very difficult for her. She messed up and got frustrated and upset a lot. In the end, we ended up with something that she is very proud of, but not without a lot of stress. Bottom line? We love the Doh Vinci concept, but this particular project is a bit much for younger kids.

My boys really enjoyed this project. I think the price point (around 10.00) is appropriate for our family. It was about an hour of fun. It allowed the boys to be creative with the doh/glue. It was easy to push out, change colors, and store. It came with plenty of doh and 4 colors. The colors were bright and fun. It was a good craft project that I would recommend, depending on how you feel about the price point. If you have doh left over, they can create a masterpiece of their own! It is better and cheaper than puffy paint.

I didn't love that it was cardboard. The little flaps on the edge of the star were easily torn off, making it hard to attach to the back. I also don't love their designs. Boys love this kind of stuff, and it is great for their dexterity. Everything is flowers and hearts. They need to expand their line, make it appealing to more children.

I would recommend ages 6 and older. The doh was a little tricky, but the boys would just mold it in their hands and push it down if they had trouble. It is great that you can buy more colors and another gun. I would probably do that, and skip their backgrounds in the future.

We attached a video so you can see it in action. We hope you get a giggle out of the fact that it is not scripted. We are over the bottles being taped to a box inside a box :)

This is something that my daughter and I wanted to try out as a possible gift for younger people on our holiday shopping list. We liked it, and even though she is older than the target age, she liked it enough that she plans to get a refill kit to use in her crafting.

My daughter, who has worked extensively with Crayola's Model Magic for years had some suggestions. She put the star not yet assembled under a piece of clear, flexible plastic (actually it's a lamination pouch that I laminated empty for her to use just for projects like this) and piped the shapes on that. Then I put the star together and she peeled the almost dry shapes off the plastic and glued them into place after I assembled the star. It's an extra step, but it will prevent some of the headaches of trying to pipe the shapes on the 3d background, plus if it's not just right the first time, you can redo it easily.

I'm an experienced paper crafter, it's part of what I do for a living, and putting together the star was easy for me, but it looks like it would be tricky for smaller hands.

The DohVinci feels and looks a bit like a soft air-dry clay. It's brightly colored and the styler applicator is bright and easy to use. It takes some practice to get a smooth line.

This DohVinci kit is great as it has everything you need to use any DohVinci doh. You don't have to buy anything separate. The only think I don't like and it more about DohVinci is that the doh is not reusable, so if you make a mistake that doh needs to be thrown out. Not very cost effective in terms of a toy that you need to constantly be buying refills for. I think I wills tick to Playdoh instead at least with care you can use the doh over and over again. My little one really enjoyed it so for me it was worth it for the price but will not invest in another DohVinci product in the future - enough with the refills I currently have to buy,

My grand daughter will probably enjoy this as much as the other DohVinci I've sent her but never opened. I, however, thought the items to be decorated were thin.plastic. They are cardboard. The tubes of doh are terribly small for the cost and while I love the idea of this I feel it is ridiculously overpriced. I just purchased refills and when
I saw how tiny they are I was very displeased.....it's flippin water downed playdough....not even a whole little can worth altogether and it cost over $16.00???? i had thought to get these kits for all the little girls in my life but won't.
